$27,000.00 Dane?!

If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

I am in the show world and while I do think 27K is a lot of money, I have seen puppies go for more. Also, the puppy was shipped from Australia to the US (i dont know how much that would cost but Im sure its a lot). Its not unusual for a person to wait an show a large, slow developing dog (such as a great dane) until they are at least 2 years old. Some breeds (such as borzois) usually don't go into the ring until they are at least 3 years old due to slow development. I have never paid 27k for a dog, and I will never pay that much, but people who are involved in the show world with a particular breed will pay lots of money for a dog with a great pedigree which has multiple champions in it. There is always a chance that the puppy will not turn out as a great show dog but most show people are willing to take the chance.

I think the problem some of us are having with this is that the amount of money in question is like...a yearly wage for some of us. We all need to get into the mind-set of rich people and then look at this. $27, 000 isn't even a car for rich people - of course they'd buy a dog for that amount!
