question about red spoodles

If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

Once upon a time, True Red Standard poodles had gone extinct and the land wept. By the land, I mean people that like red poodles. Around 1980 Shangri La and Palmares started breeding large Red minis with small apricot standards in order to reintroduce the Red color in standards. So, all red standards today can be traced back to those two kennels.
Check out Shangri La, Marquis Diamond and Louter Creek Hunting Poodles.

Blacks and Whites have the best coat, and are the most common in the show ring because of that.

The reds are stunning. I want a red for my next standard poodle. One of the breeders I have been looking at is bijou poodles in Canada. I've watched their website for a few years now. They breed a little more based on color but I really love their reds. They seem to stay red too and not fade to apricot later.

Everyone has done a very good job at explaining the "red" issue. You are correct in that they are quite stunning. Sunscreen (made for dogs) can help protect the color from washing out in the sun...to some extent.

My Standard Poodle breeder is in Canada and specializes in silver, blue, and creams. She produces AKC and Canadian Champions as well as performance titled champs. Chocolate Spoodles tend to be bred specifically for hunting...rarely show.

I wish Parti Poodles were allowed to show. And I wish you could show a poodle in several different clips.

I do think it's easier to show different colors in Canada...US judges (from what I've seen) don't favor silvers, blues, or creams...just black and white...so it can force breeders to "color" their dogs hair in order to place. I hate that!

From what I've heard on the poodle forum I'm on the Canadian Poodle Club voted and now allows Parti-coloured poodles to be shown. shrug

I so agree with you on the clip issue!! If I could show in a Miami I would consider adding confirmation to my list for my future poodle!
