GO!

Should another dog enter our world...

If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

Hi all

recently my parents and I went to take my jack russell (Banksy) to the local kennels as we are going away for the weekend and they look after dogs very well! While we were there they mentioned to us that they had an 8 month old jack russell x border collie called Daisy that had been rescued from a home that was set on fire by its owner and she has now been put away in prison.

We became very tempted to take the dog in as soon we saw that she and my dog got along swimmingly! They were running around chasing eachother, no growling or fighting whatsoever.

My parents and I have been thinking rather hard since meeting Daisy. Banksy our jack russell is left at home as I go to college and my parents have to work. My auntie and uncle come in during the day to make sure he's ok and he gets walked in the morning and when we come home but i'm sure he gets lonely. Would getting Daisy be a good idea for our family? I'm sure Banksy wouldn't be as bored during the day and they would have a great time when we take them to the beach!

I'd like to hear your thoughts and opinions as I would like to do some research to show my parents that this is a good idea for our dog and us.

Thank you smile

As a general rule, it is usually best to get another dog because *you* ( or in this case , your parents ) want one. In rare cases, another dog can help with certain problems. ( an example would be a puppy mill dog who needed another dog to show them the ropes). These two are getting along fine at the moment, but it's a whole different ball game between visiting and living together in the same house. I took Princesse because I had wanted another dog for a long time , and was prepared to keep her and Bunny separated if I had to. I took her for me, not for himsmile

I really like having more then one dog. They play and keep each other company when I am not home or otherwise busy. However, they are more work and more expense. I would go for it, but you'all need to look carefully at your situation and make a choice in your and the dogs best interest.
