GO!

i hate to say it

If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

"Rusty is mildly velcro. When I invite him up on the couch, he tries to crawl inside my skin, to make sure we are touching!"

All of my dogs are like this but Zephyr is the one who wants to share a skin so I can never leave her alone again ever ever. I've boarded her once in 6 months and she wouldn't let me out of her sight for days. She had springs for feet and wanted to stare deeply into my eyes for hours. laugh out loud She doesn't have SA thankfully. Just vague concern about being left behind.

"a dog who will follow me around to make sure I'm okay, but not too in my face while still being affectionate."

Exactly. I want a slightly more affectionate and handler-focused version of Bruno, then I'm all set. Maggie the Aussie is actually really good on that score- she's cool with being alone and can amuse herself, but when people are around she chooses to be near them and indicates she'd like to be petted without being demanding or pushy.

My girl is not really all that affectionate, except when she is starting a heat cycle, and then there's just no way for us to be close enough. Most of the time, affection to her is playing frisbee, or tug or, practicing agility.

She does like to lay down and stare at me, and she will push the bathroom door open if I'm in the shower or using the bathroom. Then, she'll just leave. My cat was the same way, they just hate closed doors.

I do have a, "go to your bed," command if I feel she's getting too needy, but that rarely happens.

Had a clingy dog once. I loved him but GOD, I'd love to eat just.one.meal without him hanging on my shoulders (& no he wasn't begging). If I moved 2' over on the couch he'd get up and adjust his position accordingly.

All the dogs I have now are just perfect. They follow me from room to room, they will lay with me on the couch, or on the back of the couch, but don't have to be ON me, ya know? They sleep with me but stay on 'their' side of the bed. I have ONE cat that HAS to be ON me if he's inside, so I usually shut him out of the bedroom.

When I'm on the computer there's a stuffed chair next to the desk and there's always one or two dogs and a cat or two on it while I'm working. If my son tries to sit in that chair to talk to me, he gets the 'stink eye' from all the animals until he moves. LOL!

My dogs are all "semi-affectionate" but my problem is when I want to cuddle or whatever they want nothing to do with me, but when I want to be alone they are all in my face at the same time laugh out loud
They all follow me everywhere I go And if they can't all get in the bed, they are laying around it or underneath it
