GO!

Ridiculous...

If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

I found this while browsing for St. Paddy's day clipart. They "specialize" in Silver Labs but also have a "very rare and hard to find" Champagne line which I can't see any difference between the coats on them and on run of the mill Yellow Lab, Savannah.

Bosh!

That is just ridiculous! I'm so tempted to send them a not so nice email. It's just a yello Lab. And how can they show them if they're such a rare breed. You can only show yellow, chocolate and black labs because those are the official colours. Just like you cant show silver Labs.

that's just bizarre...

I was assuming "champagne" would be cream (light yellow) with dilute skin pigment- either dilute chocolate (called "lilac" in other breeds) or dilute black ("blue"). And when I google "Champagne Labrador Retriever" that's what I find, light yellows with dilute brown noses and very light eyes. But unless my eyes deceive me, these dogs look like normal yellows with black noses. You wouldn't be able to show a dog with a blue or lilac nose anyway, and they claim to be showing them.

And the price- 4500!!!! For YELLOW Labs. "Ridiculous" is right.

I think that is the funniest thing I have seen in a long, long time! I know--I'll get a few black labs, call them "rare Ebony" and make a fortune! BOL!

They show the dogs in the "IABCA" (International All Breed Canine Association)... Never heard of it. There was another kennel that popped up when I searched champagne labradors. Apparently they come in light champagne- cremello, and dark champagne goldello... Their dogs just don't look right.

Some college friends of mine got caught up in the whole "rare color" thing. They spent all kinds of money on a "white" lab puppy. My friend is one of those super sentimental people. She wanted the white lab for her "cotton" wedding anniversary (year 2?). They even named the dog Cotton. The dog is light yellow, not white. But she continues to call it her "white lab". Ugh.

IABCA is legit. I've posted about them before. It's a non-competitive show association/registry- they do shows all around the USA and it's good way to "test the waters" of dog showing if you're just getting started. But it's much easier to get an IABCA title than AKC or even UKC, so it's less valuable. A dog whose only formal accomplishment is an IABCA title indicates a lazy breeder... especially if they're promoting the dog as a top show stud. (Not.)

Not to mention their labs look pretty horrible conformtion-wise. We have a "silver" lab at work, and there is no way there isn't Weim in his lines.
