I am happier with this result. I never did believe that he could have a purebred Chihuahua mother or father, while I understand mixes can be larger than their parents, and Chihuahuas CAN breed with larger dogs (it's difficult, but it happens) it seemed unlikely seeing he's 50 lbs. Knowing that his parent was probably a medium-sized Chi-CROSS makes more sense. If his Shar Pei/Deerhound parent was around 60 lbs (a reasonable estimate) and his Chi-Chow parent around 25 (also reasonable) that's quite believable.
The deerhound (or maybe wolfhound?) part is still odd, but I realized today, if there's ANYWHERE in America this cross could happen by accident, it's Arizona. Shar Pei are reasonably popular there, and while Deerhounds are rare, some people in the American west (including Arizona) use them to hunt jackrabbits and coyotes in the wide-open spaces.
Bianca, while I don't have a close-up photo of his feet, some the photos on his profile show them. They're proportionally very small, and have arched, rounded toes, a "cat foot" rather than a "hare foot". I've noticed most Nordic and primitive breeds also have small round feet, as compared to say, GSDs and Labs that have proportionally big feet with more splayed toes. His nails are black and very hard (don't wear down naturally.) He has dew claws on front legs only.
I have to say, I LOVE his tiny feetsies. | | | | |
