Breeder shipping a dog

If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

Weather can definitely bite you in the bum, but this year it is so freakily mild, I don't think you'll have a problem. What state is the breeder in? Looks foresty smile

Always check the connections! You'll have the number to track, and you can just call and check that everything is on schedule. I really loathe saying it, Mikey, but don't lose all your worry wart-ness laugh out loud If there is a transfer, then track that has been smoothly made.

Puppy may or may not eat the first day. It's ok if he doesn't.....that can be normal. Be sure you know what he is eating and get some of it (some breeders will send a baggie of it along). It never hurts to give an acidophilus pill as well, to help with his digestion. Again, don't freak or anything wink, but keep a close eye on the puppy his first week or two, and any sign of anything and take him to the vet for a checkup right away. I usually schedule the vet for their third day anyway. He will be stressed on the plane and there may be other puppies on board, so he will be prone to pick something up if there is something to be picked up. Rarely, rarely is there anything to worry about as all shipped puppies must be vetted, but don't ignore symptoms.

It will be fine....just be ready and prepared smile

I must admit I have not dealt with this personally, but my aunt's sister did this, and everything turned out fine. The dog was ground shipped though, and had a person taken care of him the whole way there.

I too wanted to congratulate you on the new addition, may I ask what kind of dog you decided on getting?
