If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

Black dogs rock! |
| Barked: Fri Oct 30, '09 1:43pm PST | | | | | | I was watching Dr Phil with my client and they were showing clips from future shows. One said that a man bought a 4000 dollar dog and then wanted his girlfriend to pay his car loan. Dog obbessed as I am, I thought " What breed of dog is worth 4000 dollars?!" Any ideas on what it could be? | | | | |

A) Some person decided to charge that much for whatever novel reason and some silly person brought it. Something stupid like "world's smallest teacup dog.. 12oz at maturity!"
B) The dog is outstanding, such as a sire that produced most CH. offspring, most titled sporting dog, internationally renown, etc etc. There have been such dogs of high calibur that have been brought for much more.
C) A ready-trained dog. Like police dogs, etc, protection, proven working dogs, etc.Edited by author Fri Oct 30, '09 1:52pm PST

I looked at this one female Dobe that was imported from Poland, I think she was around $12,000. No, I didn't get her Would like to have though

Take a big winning male, for example. His stud service would be most likely around $2000 per service, and he would probably be used around 20 times a month, so doing the math you can see this would be a decent investment. I have had offers to buy some of my dogs for that price, and more, but for a true hobby breeder like myself, it's not all about the money!!! Also don't forget the investment of money it has taken to make that $4000 dog... the breeder has most likely spent years and years developing their line and hundreds of thousands of dollars showing and promoting that line in order to make it what it is. A person breeding their average purebred dog to another average purebred dog is not going to sell the offspring for that kind of money, it takes a lifetime of devotion to producing top dogs to command prices like that.

I once saw an add for Papi-Poms. 3,800 bucks. The same person was advertising supposedly AKC registered Poms for 400. I still haven't figured out how they got those prices...
