Choosing the Right Dog

GO!
If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

Somebody please tell me I have lost my mind!

I can totally understand the husband trouble. We just had Steam Brothers come out and clean our carpets, $275.00 to do the whole house! My husband was not happy and complaining about "kids" and "dogs"! laugh out loud He keeps saying, were not having another inside dog again! And yet he sits in his chair with a dog in his lap sleeping! laugh out loud Poor guy will never win with the no dog in the house again argument!

Oh dear

I basically married my husband because of his lax dog policies, he is cool with five dogs (of
course we have 6 now with Bingo). He is not as dog obsessed as I but he is very happy with
multi dogs.

Maybe if you showed him the photos, i think you'd give these dogs a great home

Princess, I am here to talk you down off of the ledge. I know their cute, you know their cute, we all know their cute. And yes they're like chips, you can never have just one. But you might want to wait until you're in a better financial situation. Sorry saw that in another one of your threads about Standard Poodles. And yes I know Chi's can be cheaper.

Stop looking at Tillers page and step away from the Chi's laugh out loud

Could you offer to foster the little guys until they get good homes? you get your puppy fix, the pups have somewhere secure to stay until their forever home comes along.

Yes fostering is a great option for most.

Its beyond me, I know after Bingo I dont think I can foster I get too attatched. Actually I could probably do it with a puppy and get it adopted, its the seniors that break my heart but my husband has put the kabosh on future fostering. He says five dogs of our own and no fosters until we have more funds and or space

I think there's an 11+ hour drive involved between the Chi's & Princess/Bunny so it may not be the best option for the lil' pups right now.
Princess/Bunny, have you looked into fostering for shelters in your area?

Wow, Mia and Dot, for someone who lives so far away you sure know alot! ( and thanks for answering the distance question I was going to ask Tiller bol). If anyone has the time and or inclination they can check out some of these shelters. I think we have a problem around here that most of you dog rescuers would love to have. If you check out the numbers at our shelter ( Bathurst) you will see that they took in 122 dogs AND cats and placed 75 dogs all year! I checked out the other shelters and they only have a few dogs available. If anybody checks these places out you will see that small dogs are very hard to come by. As to fostering, only 3 of these places are within an hours drive to me. The rest are 3 hours away . Which brings up the question, what is a reasonable distance to foster? I suspect with such small numbers there isnt a big demand for foster homes. As I once mentioned to Tiller and Ducan , this is why I think Southpaws is fantastic idea. We have a happy problem, yes. It also gives rise to another problem.... if there are no small dogs to adopt, and no good breeders of small dogs, where do you get your small dog? Why, at a pet shop or byb of course.cry If you want a big dog, well of course there are lots at the shelters... Note: not a Spoodle or even a Doodle and definately no Chihuahuas in sight wink

Princess you're having a moment of weakness. If you foster you are so a goner. You know what ever comes in your home will not be leaving. They'll be prying your fingers off the pup with your toes hanging onto the edge of the door jam.
