Choosing the Right Dog

GO!
If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

I was watching Princess and Bunny playing tug of war earlier and as usual he was winning ( he cheats too, by putting his paws on the toy and holding it down) Anyway here is the conversation between the angel and the devil on each shoulder:

Devil: Wouldnt it be nice for Princess to have a playmate her size?

Angel: You have more work to do on her barking.

Devil: But if she had pint size companion, maybe she would be too busy to bark.

Angel: You arent even ready for your SP yet and you are thinking about yet another dog?

Devil: But Chis are cheap to feed and dont need the grooming that SPs do.

Angel: You havent even started working on hubby yet for the SP!

Devil: Well, he said ok to Princess didnt he?

And on and on it went. Someone help the angel win!

Depends how big a deal the barking is to you. My friend had one chi, and had some barking issues (some, not so bad...). Then she got a second chi, and instead of it doubling the amount of barking, it multiplied it by at least four, as near as I can tell. Now they bark at each other, at the other dogs, and at anything that moves.

Of course, she didn't really train them, so there's always that reason. Just saying, for your shoulder angel - I doubt a second chi will improve the noise level. wink

Cryus, the barking bothers hubby more than me, but the angel agrees ... The devil is now going... oh look, southpaws has chi mixes which might not bark so much wink

I happen to think it's a brilliant idea!!! And I saw the Southpaws thing too! If I didn't have such a huge puppy currently in-house (who I know wouldn't be as gentle as Bam-Bam), I would consider one of those chi mixes!!! Do it for me so I can live vicariously through you!!!

This is just my opinion but to me you shouldn't get another dog for your dog, you should get it because YOU want another dog. Riley and Raven would be totally happy as single dogs but that's too bad, I want them both. wink

Although chi's are pretty cheap to feed they can have some pretty expensive medical problems, so that's another thing to consider. But, I am all for a homeless pup getting a new home so sleep on it and see what you think in the morning. blue dog

Those little Southpaws puppies need great homes, you want another dog.. maybe it is fate? Show your husband a pic, tell him they are homeless babies, and call Southpaws!

If it was only up to me, I would probably be on the phone right nowbig grin . Unfortunately, hubby is not as dog obsessed as I am. A Spoodle, I might have a chance , as he once said that the only dog he would consider having was a toy poodle . ( That was before Bunny and Princess changed his plans bol) . Another Chihuahua ? It would take a miracle to convince him I think.cry They are all so sweet.....

I just showed hubby the pics ( not telling him what my devious mind is up to) and ask him if which one is the cutest . He says none of them frown I really like the black and white one, reminds me a bit of Bunny....
