If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

Helo
little rascal |
| Barked: Mon Jul 6, '09 6:23am PST | | | | | | My vote goes to shih tzus. I've known 4 of them and they have all been major lap dogs. My uncle's shih tzus are content to sit in my cousin's lap allll day. And they aren't picky either, they'll cuddle up with anyone! | | | | |

Sirius- "Padfoot"- Black
Too clever for- Mom's own good!- :)

| Barked: Mon Jul 6, '09 9:52am PST | | | | | | I agree that big dogs make the best lap dogs, but, of course, I'm an upstate NY Amazon, so it takes a lot more dog to cover my lap and help keep me warm. Luckily, I have two who both think that my lap is theirs and they have been known to curl up together on said lap. Good thing Rex isn't nearly as big as Siri..... | | | | |

Patriot-SDIT
Honest men- should not fear- the truth |
| Barked: Mon Jul 6, '09 10:19am PST | | | | | | Laura and Patriot both think that they are lap dogs. If Patriot exceeds 80 lbs. though it may be time to cut in on his little fantasy.
Now that I think about it Patriot is a strange dog. He loves to cuddle, be 'primate' hugged, and be as close as possible to you.
So even though I would vote Golden Retriever, it may just be my dogs!

Gunner
All legs and no- tail |
| Barked: Mon Jul 6, '09 10:47am PST | | | | | | My GSP rather loves being on my lap, but the Bassets can't be fussed with such a complicated situation when they have perfectly comfortable beds on the floor!
As for smaller, more orthodox lap dogs, my friends Cavaliers love to be on people's laps. The Papillon at my work is a constant lap companion, too. I can't get rid of him when I'm there!

Your dog loves- you so love your- dog!

| Barked: Mon Jul 6, '09 2:15pm PST | | | | | | I love the big lap dogs! Norbert is a very good lap dog. I agree pitbulls are amazing affectionte. However, my husbands one big dog at a time rule looms so this will have to be a small dog. Right now Im leaning heavily towards the cavalier or english toy spaniel (tied) I think doxies may be too barky for my urban home.
I love hearing about lap dogs though, you big guys must be adorable on the laps

He will use the steps if you dont respond to a few minutes of crying but at night its hard to do the ingnoring that would probably be curb this behavior.
