If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

| Barked: Sun Jul 5, '09 8:06am PST | | | | | | I'd just like to say a big thank you to everyone who posted against PeTA. For those of you who insist on supporting them, here's some factual info that may surprise you:

Here's another link to a super article about Nathan Winograd (and not that O/T given PeTA's stance on animal breeding and ownership):

To me they are fanatical and nothing is ever accomplished by being a fanatic. If they were for the ethical treatement of animals, they would be *supporting* responsible ownership of pitbulls, not for killing them all. They of anyone else would have NO KILL shelters. Their shelter euthanasia statistics, and tactics for putting the animals down are shameful. Their method of euthanasia isn't even up to date. That is enough for me to negate anything good they do. In all honesty, I'm going to say I haven't really heard of anything good that they've done. When I hear someone talking about PETA, or pushing PETA tactics, I walk away, because I don't like being preached at.
I'm not going to be blind to the notion that they or some of their members *have* done good things, but it's unfortunate that any good work they have done is counteracted by all the fanatic acts *againts* ethical treatment of animals that goes on with that organisation. Its a shame that the national organization promotes some of the unethical treatment of animals. Not to make this a pit thing, but to me it strikes home and it strikes hard. They wanted ALL the Vick dogs put down. The true idea of "ethical treatement of animals" is a good idea. But it seems to me that they go about it in a horrible, counter productive, and *un*ethical manner. I'm not quite sure where they come up with their ethics, but I've always understood ethics to be a more universal notion than say, "morals".
I should think that any animal lover that wants the best for the creatures of our planet would be against killing animals simply for their breed.
ETA: to a lot of people, its shocking to find out how PETA really is. It isn't old news to everyone. Also, in all honesty, though I was never a fan of them because I've been preached at many times by some of their members, I didn't know just how bad they really were until the michael vick stuff went down and the BSL was stated in my area. And then found out through anti BSL sites just what they're about.Edited by author Sun Jul 5, '09 10:21am PST

We love our Mommy and don't want to be wild and free animals....we are wild and free enough as it is! Who wants to have to fend for their own food anyways? PETA doesn't support companion animals they pretty much just want them all to be lose and in the wild.

A lot of conservation policy, for example, is made on a local basis I do donate to a couple of national and international organizations (not really animal-related ones), but I try to donate locally, keep up with what is going on in my town, and help/educate people on a more one-to-one basis.
I love the idea of an 'animal food bank.'
One of the things to remember about PETA is that they are not stupid -- they are wicked smart. Ingrid is a very intelligent and sly person. Dead wrong, though. If you haven't looked up the history of PETA, I suggest you do. Even wikipedia has a fairly unbiased history of the origins of PETA. It's quite enlightening, and shows that they have always been a 'radical' group.

| Barked: Tue Jul 7, '09 9:52am PST | | | | | | PETA~people eating tasty animals...BOLBOL They had a big story on elephants in circuses. Peta said they should quit using the sticks with a hook at the end of them to instruct the elephants. Well in my opinion if I am working with 3 elephants I want something to help me out a little. The trainers said it is like getting bit my a misquito and doesn't hurt the elephants. But peta wants all of that to be banded so what are people supposed to do? Stop circuses? That is one way to keep animal populations up is to put them in shows and stuff like that. Also I am a hunter and many of my family members and friends are hunters. Peta wants to stop hunting... Here you have to pay for your hunting lisence, pay to get drawn so you can hunt big game, and pay for your fishing lisence. If you stop hunting then all of that money that the game and fish departments get from hunters and fishermen is gone. Game and fish use all of that money to help wildlife and help preserve the land and state trust lands that are only aloud for hunters. Plus to stop "working" dogs. My friends own german shorthaired pointers and those dogs are in heaven when they get to go out hunting.
They want to stop farming. That is another thing that helps the land and the native animals. If they stop farming and all of these farmers don't raise cattle or anything then they will sell all of there land since they have no need for it. There big open lands here in the southwest have every kind of native animals on it. The farmers actualy help the population of native animals like Peta is so "concerned" about have a place to live. All of these farmers sell there land then developers are just going to come in and build on that land. Then what happens, no more native animals like Peta is supposed to be so "concerned" about.
Another point that someone already pointed out is then we won't have anymore pets. From goldfish to dogs. That is just sad because my kids really like having dogs, cats, hampsters, and fish.
Plus reading about then just not caring about all of those animals they could have found homes for but found it easier and cheaper to just put to sleep, just makes me like them less.
They are just narrow minded people that can't see the whole picture. That is just my opinion on Peta and how they are.

Nylon, leather, chain it didn't matter it wasn't staying around his neck. If he couldn't chew it off he could some how get his head threw it and off. If we went to the lake or something and had to put him on a teather or chain he could break any of those also. The bigger the dog the stronger they are that is all there is to it. You can't say just one breed can to that.
