Choosing the Right Dog

GO!
If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

PETA? Animal savers? Yeah right...

Rosie-

Just remove the space in the middle of the word "shelter" when you copy and paste the link. It should work after you do that.

I didn't actually know that PETA had anything to do with pets... they've always driven me crazy with their vegetarian campaign and their anti-fur stuff (I'm anti-fur, but I don't think attacking people who aren't makes a lot of sense...), but I never imagined they were involved with household pets. This makes me sick!

I don't dislike PETA at all. 95% of what they do is wonderful. You can't believe all the bull your read online. Like the myth that PETA kills adopted pets. The truth is PETA takes in dogs and cats from shelters that use inhumen methods of euthanasia, like decompression, gas, and gunshots. They euthanize these animals humanely. Sadly, there is no way that all these animals can find homes. With all the BYBs and puppy mills out there, plus all the irresponsible pet owners! PETA is not for BSL. They are FOR breeding bans of all breeds. I think that unless you are a professional and reputable breeder, you should be banned from breeding! You need to look at the facts. PETA saves animals and does a lot of good. You need to stop listening to the garbage online that bashes one organization just because they don't believe in everything they do. Of course hunters and butchers are going to be against PETA! Of course BYBers and puppymills are going to be against PETA! Of course zoos, circuses, and people who own tigers as pets are going to be against PETA! I'm a proud member of PETA and make monthly donations. They do a lot of good. PETA is what got me to turn vegan. And guess what? Goodbye obesity, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes! Both my dogs and I eat a biologically appropriate diet; vegan for me, and raw meat for my dogs.

Sorry, the bottom line for me it that they take healthy dogs and cats that could be adoptable and kill them. I don't care if it a "nicer" death than it would be at other shelters, the bottom line is still the same-death. If they wanted to, they could have a real shelter and adopt these animals out-they certainly have enough donations to do so. You can send your money where you like, but this is not the sort of policy I want to support. I send my money to places I can support 100%.
