Choosing the Right Dog

GO!
If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

What other breeds has your purebred been mistaken for?

Sadie Rue

JRT - 0 to 60 in 2.5- seconds

Barked: Wed Jul 1, '09 10:37am PST
One lady thought Sadie was a Dalmatian puppy. She does have spots under her fur, but still...she is so very Jack Russell that this made me laugh.

And then there was the time she got stung by a wasp and the receptionist at the veterinary hospital thought she was a Bull Terrier pup - that's how swollen her poor little head was.

Most people do guess her right on, though, or think she's Wishbone out being incognito. smile

Zoey

Wants Attention

Zoey (Min. Dashchund) often gets mistaken for a Doberman puppy. Once, someone told me that she wasn't a Dashchund because she was the wrong color and I was going to have "a big Doberman on my hands".

Um yeah, she's probably the longest weiner dog that I've ever seen.

Baloo RN CGN

Dog of all- trades

Peanut gets "chihuahua" all. the. time. confused Understandable I suppose, but I'll be honest, it kind of annoys me a little.

Baloo gets "pit mix" a lot, because he has a bit of a wider head. More room for brains. laugh out loud

Kitsune

aka Kit!!

Barked: Wed Jul 1, '09 1:20pm PST
People usually think that Kit is either a long haired chihuahua, or some kind of mix.

He's a papillon. Most people around here don't even seem to know what a papillon is.

Most often it's Akita. I know he's tall and all, but I would think that would make people assume he's a Malamute.

Also, Pit Bull. Really.

Cash

Eat... Drink...- & Be Hairy...

Cash has been mistaken for a Chow Chow lots of times!
Everytime I tell people that he's a golden retriever, I always get the same response: "really? but he's so wide... & fluffy" BUT when I say that he's a chow chow crossed with a golden retriever they all say: "oh ok, that's why he looks like that" - go figure!
He's also been called a "golden labrador", a "german shepherd" & a "saint bernard" - LOL!
Although my personal favorite was when we went to do a humane education talk and a kid ran up to him shouting "it's a teddy bear"!

Stinky

*insert fart- noise*

Barked: Wed Jul 1, '09 8:14pm PST
Lilith- Thats what I was thinking! Most just say "one of those mini huskies" but a few times they've actually mentioned the Klee Kai.

Vance- That reminded me, the other day someone asked if Gypsy was an Akita, it was so cute because they were the sweetest little old couple. It probably broke my boyfriends heart to tell them that she wasn't frown
