When we had our Apollo our Great Dane when he was a puppy he was mistaken for a hound dog.
Zoe is always mistaken for a pit bull. Her muzzle is slightly longer than a regular boxer dog.

With Betty, it is "Oh, is she a Corgi Mix?" Because they've never seen a cardigan, which seem to be quite rare around here.. only pembrokes.

Gypsy always gets mistaken for an Alaskan Klee Kai. She is 40 lbs which is breed standard and yet everyone thinks she is "so small for a husky!". shrug Then there is the usual Malamute and Wolf.


Stinky isn't purebred but he ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS gets mistaken for a boxer puppy. I don't see it...

I hear "Is that a wolf?!?" DAILY. Also 'part wolf'.

Kyan has been mistaken for a pet BEAR on multiple occasions (hysterical).

As far as other breeds, I have heard:

Afghan Hound
Standard Poodle
ChowChow
German Shepherd
Dutch Shepherd

To the owner of the gorgeous black GSD:
Malinois DO come in all black (they look fabulous though not nearly as regal as your boy!) but it is very rare. I think I've seen three in my lifetime. I want one sooo very badly but unfortunately I have never come across one the owner was willing to part with.
