Choosing the Right Dog

GO!
If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

What other breeds has your purebred been mistaken for?

Most people peg me right after actually meeting me. My eyes, playing style & crouch are hard to miss. On occasion, someone will ask if I'm English Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog -- or inform my mom that I can't be Border Collie b/c Border Collies are only black & white!! big grin

Laura and Patriot (golden retriever) red lab or Irish setter. I have to give people credit though, most of the time they know they are goldens!

Shadow though is another story....
He is a Shetland Sheepdog but most of the time he is a; collie, mini collie, collie puppy, Lassie, mini Lassie, and baby Lassie laugh out loud And he is always referred to as a 'she'
He doesn't mind being called a collie, but Lassie? He feels it insults his manly-ness. wink laugh out loud I try to tell him how cool Lassie is, and that Lassie was actually a guy! He won't listen to me though shrug laugh out loud

When Lizzy was a puppy everyone thought she was a pit bull so no one wanted to pet her or anything. Once we told them she was an English Mastiff they would come right up and start petting her and play with her.

With Chance a lot of people call him a pit bull but he is a cousin to a pit bull which is an American Staffordshire. Am Staffs are just taller then pit bulls and the total opposite personality type.

A lot of people called Cody a bunch of things but we really never new what kind of mix he was.

I've gotten some pretty freaky stuff myself.

Several times I've gotten Belgian Malinois (do those even come in solid black??), Belgian Shepherd (I assume Groenendael), and even Dutch Shepherd.... HOW the heck people know about these breeds, yet have never heard of a black GSD, is simply beyond me.

Lab is a popular one (WHY?!) as is Chow, or Chow/Lab mix.

I also sometimes get wolf. That ones my favorite laugh out loud

Chihuahuas are yellow big laugh

That has got to be the funniest thing I've heard all day. I would've said "Umm... chihuahuas can be almost every color imaginable to the dog world." And laughed SO HARD my eyes would've teared as I walked away.

Lilo gets bull terrier the most. I think it's her ears. She's also gotten staffordshire bull terrier, boxer (idk how...) and american staffordshire.

Teddy has gotten: Longhaired labrador retriever (really, people), flat-coated retriever (I guess I can see this one a bit, but flatties are very rarely yellow), Newfoundland (!!!), Goldendoodle (yeah... okay)

Once I've gotten into a heated debate about how Teddy could NOT be a purebred golden, but had to have GREAT DANE of all breeds. I really have no clue... I mean he's 3 inches over standard, which makes him "tall" but he looks nothing like a great dane, nothing.
