Choosing the Right Dog

GO!
If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

Honey, I will take that puppy!big grin
I see Push Comes to Shove in momma Bailey's pedigree and that is as good as you can get! cheercheer I was looking around for Push offspring a while back and you practically have to sell your soul to get a 'Push" son.

Daddy Pete is quite the looker. Oh yeah! That is one red fieldy guy!

I think the pup you are looking at might still be there because....and this is just a guess.......that pup can go to a 'companion' home, so might not be showing as much hardcore prey drive. So perhaps not the choice for someone who wants a superdrivey field trial champ.

I would contact the breeder and ask. Right away! Perhaps the breeder is trying to find the appropriate home for the pup.

I will have to look at the puppy-raising, etc. and all that stuff. I just had to comment on that pedigree.

Also, what are you planning to do with your doggie? Hunt, agility, OB, therapy? thinking Or just plain dog lovin,' belly-scratchin' chuckit fun? laugh out loud

'Scuse me, I think I am in love........cloud 9

I still haven't made it through a lot of stuff on both sides. Fireside does maintain a yahoo group for their dogs' owners to keep in touch, I found.
That's kind of nice.

These two sites will certainly show the field/show split in Golden Retrievers.shock

Also, it is said to be difficult to show champ a red Golden in the AKC, as the AKC standard changed the color range at some point in the more recent history.thinking The CanadianKC allows a wider range of colors. So red Goldens may either be CanadianKC champs or just looked at for conformation by the GRCA if the owners don't want to go to Canada.thinking

More after the festivities of the 4th! smile

thats one thing i noticed...the show goldens and field bred goldens are soooo different in appearance. I decided to go ahead and purchase teddy...i dont see any red flags yet, i already sent the check. problem is im still really kinda wanting the adult goldan i was looking she was a show bred and an absolute beauty, the field breds are great at what they do but im not a hunter so i dont have alot of use for a field bred.

Shadow and owner,

I do not know where in New Mexico you are located, but there is a United States Dog Agility Assocation licensed group located in Albuquerque. Here is the contact information:

Linda Johns - (505) 254-9332
Southwest Agility Team , 219 Sierra Place NE , Albuquerque , NM 87108 , United States

The next official competition, as opposed to a fun run, is being held at Eagle Park in Belen from September 25 -27th, in case you are interested in observing them. Even if the club is too far away for you to actually work your new dog with once she's old enough, they would still be a great resource to talk to as regards getting started in agility.

Also, here is the link to the list of AKC agility clubs for New Mexico. Some of these agility clubs are offered through all-breed clubs and others are offered through speciality clubs but allow dogs of other breeds to participate in the agility offerings of the club. As well, I am not sure how often the links provided are updated and whether they are still viable, so if the USDAA club is not an option, then you will need to look through the list of AKC ones and determine for yourself which one is the best fit for you and your new dog.

I hope this has been of use to you. Congratulations on locating such a wonderful breeder and being matched with such a great puppy!

wishes

You are most welcome and congratulations! She is a beautiful girl and you've given her a similarly beautiful name and a wonderful home to go along with it.
