GO!

I need help finding the perfect dog!

If you are wondering what is the right dog for you, this is the place to be. In this introductory forum we talk about topics such as breed vs. mix, size, age, grooming, breeders, shelters, rescues as well as requirements for exercise, space and care. No question is too silly here. This particular forum is for getting and giving helpful, nice advice. It is definitely not a forum for criticizing someone else's opinion, knowledge or advice. This forum is all about tail wagging and learning.

You say you are getting a puppy next month, so I am a little confused. Do you already have a puppy? Or you are planning on getting one next month? If so, I would put it off a little bit.

It takes a lot to research a dog.

Hmm, what about a... Poodle? Thats all that comes to my head, i'm not too good in the small dog department!

I am also confused. You seem to already have a 2 month old maltese mix.

Bichon Frise

Boston Terrier

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cocker Spaniel

Lowchen

Miniature Poodle

Papillon

Go ahead and type in "all about ------" (and the name of the dog) on google, and learn for yourself. I won't go into more detail, there is just too much to say about each breed! And no matter how much I tell you, their is still more! Even if you knew all the general knowlege, their are always dogs who turn out to be the opposite of their breed. All I can really tell you, is socialize your puppy! get a purse or backpack you can take it with you to stores and on the bus and everywhere you go. Let it meet other dogs, cats, strangers, children, adults. Let it run around at petco, take it to dogparks! Start training right away, be consistent, I know their soo cute but don't let it have it's way, or it might be doing that it's whole life! Go to puppy training, then older doggie obediance. Teach it to let it's paws, mouth and ears be handled calmly. but be careful not to overwhelm it with too many things, one at a time! But it really REALLY makes all the difference in the world to show it first off that cats are not to be chased, other dogs are cool, kids are NOT chew toys, and the world isn't one big scary place! BOL. sorry I rambled terribly there...good luck with your puppy! And hey, no rush. This dog is going to be with you for a very long time. a few more months of deciding isn't going to change anything but get you a better choice!

Bichon Frise! I' ve never even had one but every one I've met has been delightful. Easy to train, friendly (w/ proper socialization) hypo allergenic, , etc... don't get it from a pet store though! Mixes /shelter pups can be great too!

Ahhh, guest...your link is to a listing of BYB's and millers who do NO health testing and are breeding for the sole purpose of selling puppies.
OP, please do some more research and make sure the breeder you go with is doing genetic screening for health issues PRIOR to breeding their dogs and is not just mass producing puppies. Ask to see copies of these tests... they will be happy to provide them if they are responsible breeders.
Please make sure they have a clear goal about their breed and have their dogs evaluated as to breeding quality prior to breeding as well.
Responsible breeders will not use an internet site such as the one posted by guest.

Zeke you wrote " get a purse or backpack you can take it with you to stores and on the bus and everywhere you go." Please only take your dog's to pet friendly stores. Only service dogs are allowed in all stores. If you take your dog every where you go like grocers or such you can get in trouble as it is against the law unless your dog is a service dog.
