Hi Everyone

I am new to this group. I have 2 chihuahuas that I love like kids, one boy Mr. Belvidere and one new addition Miss Penelope Snuggles. I am not trying to solicate here but I recently started a website dedicated to chi's and their owners.
www.onlychihuahuas.com
I would really like some feedback from fellow chi owners letting me know what you like and dont like about the site and how I could improve it. you can contact me at contactus@onlychihuahuas.com

Thanks
Jess

Nice site , easy to use, lots of info, but I disagree with one thing on there. Chis dont do well on leashes? confused Princess loves going for walks with me and helps her not bark so much during the day.

I, too, disagree with the leash comment. Most of the chihuahuas I know LOVE their leash. It takes a minute for such a small dog to warm up to the leash, but once they do, they never look back. wink

Everything else is great.

I'm looking very carefully and can't find the lead bit. Are they saying not to walk your chi? Or to put it on a harness? Harnesses are good, not walking your chi is very silly.
ETA - why do people keep saying chihuahuas can't be good with kids? Cats are barely any bigger and nobody ever says they are bad with kids. I can understand if you have a crazy busy house with 4 kids running about, but lots of families have a couple of kids with a little dog.

I think the problem with chis and kids is that kids can injure the dog because they don't know any better. I know the 11 month old little boy I babsit for could severely injure or even kill harley and Lila rae unknowingly.

There is a lot of info about chihuahua's on your website. It's all info I have read other places, but I guess it's good to find it all together. Luna also likes her leash and LOVES her daily walk. Somethings I have read about chis and kids is that chis can be snappy around small kids. Luna is the complete opposite. She gets excited when she sees kids and warms up to them way easier than adults. I think its because they aren't so big. Luna doesn't even mind when my 18 month old niece tries to pull her ears or pinch her. The other things I have read about kids and chis is that kids could hurt a chi easier because they are small enough to carry around and they could drop them or hurt them by playing too rough because they don't know any better. But Toby is kinda right, there isn't a big difference between a chi and a small cat. But somehow cats seem more hearty or something. Sometimes I feel like Luna is a fragile piece of glass BOL.

The "no leash tip" is disagreeable but on the subject of kids and chihuahuas, I'm sure many of us have heard of the child flushing the pup down a toilet to "wash it" have we not? That same thing could happen to any of us if we were teacups. I like walking but my owners say I'm "Well trained" so I often go to the local sporting complex and run off leash. happy dance

I absolutely refuse to walk on a leash. It is far below my dignity as Queen of All-I-Can-See-And-Everything-Else. I love to go on a "carry" around the neighborhood. Are any of you other chihuahuas having problems with hair loss?

Kutch, I think that's more of a problem with parents not supervising their children. Seriously, we got our first kitten when my daughter was 3 months old, pulling, hitting, or generally manhandling the cat was strictly forbidden, as were unsupervised playtimes.
We have had multiple pets since then, cats, dogs, birds, rodents, chinchillas, fish, and she has never vacuumed the gerbils, flushed the fish, or let the birds free in the garden.
Children need pet skills just as dogs need training. She's seven now and she has a primary role in training, grooming, feeding, and is gentle as a lamb.
Chalupa, please put your dog on the ground, dogs need exercise, they need to walk, else you'll have no end of weight problems, behavioural difficulties and health issues as she grows older. By all means carry her to the shops for a bit of fun, but make sure she has at least 20 minutes per day.
