Hi There!!! I'm 9 months old... been at my new home for three months since rescued from the shelter, and although I came home housebroken, and did very well for my new mom; I've had a rough week. This past week I've had two poo-incidents in my crate during the night, woke Mom up just in the nick of time two other nights - and well, poo-ed in the house when Mom wasn't looking on two additional occasions . Any suggestions how I resolve this issue so my Mom doesn't get too upset with my behavior!!!

We just had a poo slip up as I am typing this. I have tried to find as much as I can on the internet. The main theme I have come up w/ is watching for the signs they have to poo - hard to do w/out eyes in the back of your head. Bella does a really good job ringing her bell, but sometimes goes off for no reason. I usually try to follow her to see what see is up to, but tonight's mishap I was on the computer and the kids / dad were w/ her. I have started to notice the signs and ask her if see needs to go out. Then she runs to the door and rings her bell.

Another thought is have you changed her diet or is she getting some food (sneaking food) that you are not aware of. I just read an article on about food w/ more protein will make them go less than food w/ more grain. I am going to ask my vet about the benefits.

Lastly, how often do you feed her. We have gone to twice a day and Bella is getting much more regular. She can make it thru the day and night most times w/out accidents - as long as she gets taken out about 1hr after she eats.

Don't give up, she is a sweetheart. Sometimes it takes longer than others. Our beagle took 3 times as long as Bella, but he got there!

Bentley

Hi Chipmunks !

When we got our first Cavalier at 4 months "Bentley" took one day to potty train - due to the breeder doing such a good job. Our 2nd Cavalier "Lexus" took about a month to potty train. Any good dog book will tell you that you are the one responsible - don't punish the dog - look for the signs or establish a time to go out -when your Cavalier takes care of business - be reponsive - praise works-harsh words don't. Both of our Cavaliers are very sentitive - so we talk normally to them. It will all work out !

Henry had slipups until he was almost a year, and he'll still have accidents if I sleep too long! I had to step up crate training at around 7/8 months with him to really cement the housebreaking. These babies have TINY bladders and take much longer to housetrain than most dogs. BE PATIENT and it will pay off! I know how frustrating it can be.
