Nibbles
Hi! I'm Nibbles.- Play with me! |
| Barked: Thu Aug 14, '08 10:39am PST | | | | | | Nibbles is not picky at all but he is not a food hound either. I am a bit different then most people...I put his food down and I leave it down until bedtime. Most of the time he waits to eat until ten at night. Once in a great while he will skip a day and not eat at all. He's healthy and active and he does not have accidents in the house so this method of feeding works for us. If you dog has a habit of this I'd have the vet check him to make sure there is nothing wrong like a food allergy. If it is a behavior issue I've read that putting the food down for 20 minutes and then taking it up until the next meal is suppose to work. Always have fresh water for him. Also, I've heard that we should make sure theyare getting enough execise so that they work up an appetite. Finally, I'd make sure he got affection in other ways then looking to be hand fed. Hope this helps. | | | | |

Nibbles
Hi! I'm Nibbles.- Play with me! |
| Barked: Fri Aug 15, '08 7:04am PST | | | | | | I read Finn's diary and I have a few more thoughts. Maybe the broccoli is giving him gas and his stomach is upset. Also, sometimes with Nibbles I will mix things in his kibble. Maybe if you mix the chicken mixture in his kibble and slowly decrease it until it is all kibble then he will eat it. Finally, I have never given Nibbles canned dog food and I have had him since he was 10 weeks old. Hope this helps Finn. | | | | |

I'm the pup! |
| Barked: Fri Aug 22, '08 7:49pm PST | | | | | | Both my Cavaliers are picky eaters, my one always needs to be hand-feed and the other will not eat out of certain bowls. It does not matter if it is dry food or canned food, they will not touch it is they are not hand-feed, or at least having the food on one of the plates we use to eat on for the one pup. I just do not understand the toe of them at all. | | | | |

Princess Mia- Ruby- Thermopolis
Cavalier Kissies- since 2005,- baby! |
| Barked: Thu Sep 4, '08 7:35am PST | | | | | | Sometimes we are just to Royal that we need our subjects to feed us. bol! I sometimes hold out all day to see if my humom will feed me Human food and if she doesn't then I will eat my kibble.
I know couple of my six puppies that are in new homes are very picky eaters. I don't know why? Just make sure you let your vet know. Sometimes humom will mix chicken or scrambly eggs into my kibble which I love love love. Oh and I also have to have fresh cold water always or I turn up my nose and don't drink Mom says I am a Diva Princess. Whatever

Puddles

| Barked: Sun Sep 7, '08 3:39pm PST | | | | | | Puddles was pretty picky when we first got him. At first, we just continued the dog food brand the breeder was using. He needed a lot of coaxing to eat it. Then we switched to Natural Balance and had the same problem. It helped sometimes to wet the food first. Finally, we changed to Innova Puppy, and he LOVES it!! Now he comes running over when it's breakfast and dinner time, and has to be told to "wait" before chowing down. It takes him 1-2 minutes to finish his 1/2 cup. I highly recommend this brand. It's a little more expensive than the store brands, but worth it. | | | | |

Bella
Bella Baby |
| Barked: Mon Nov 24, '08 4:39pm PST | | | | | | Our puppy Bella had a similar issue. We started adding alittle water to the food and she now eats it much better. There are times when she will go awhile w/out eating. Doesn't seem to bother her weight. It usually never goes more than 24hrs. | | | | |

Cali, our- first- Cavalier
did someone say- "walk" ? |
| Barked: Wed Jul 1, '09 7:04am PST | | | | | | Hi..Cali is very picky and I have to hand feed her, Zoe is not picky, she eats on her own and likes anything.
I started off with Cali on Natural Balance Ultra (canned and dry) and switched her to the Salmon and Sweet Potatoes by doctor's suggestion. Zoe liked that, also.
After a while Cali did not want it. I chopped boiled chicken up and added it, after a while she tired of that to. I also did some research and read on dogfoodanalysis.com that they suggested adding another protein source if using the salmon/sweet potato formula, they felt the food was lacking a good amount of protein.
I started doing some research...I have my finding on my WordPreess.com blog in chart form forthe top foods ingredients analysis and first 5 food ingredients in dry and canned dog food.
http://moorecavaliers.wordpress.com/
I started looking at proteins, fats, ash content and variety especially the top 5 ingredients in both the canned and dry foods. I also tried something that is working, I still hand feed some but it works:
I feed Innova dry adult small bites and canned. I use the turkey chicken dry 1/4 cup mixed with 1/4 cup of canned Innova puppy (it is a better source of protein than the adult food. I do not fill the measuring cup all the way with Innova canned but add a little Evanger" Gold whole chicken canned to the Innova canned. The dogs love it.
At their dinner feeding I decrease the dry from 1/4 to 1/8 of a cup, heaviest meal in the morning. They wake up hungry.
I supplement with an Innova dog biscuit at lunch with a carrot or apple slice...something yummy like a teaspoon of active culture yogurt with blueberries.
I use the Innova dry chicken, Innova puppy canned and Evanger's Gold turkey/chicken one to two days then I switch flavors.
I switch every day or two with the Innova Red Meat dry with the Innova puppy canned and Evanger"s Gold Beef with Chicken.
Eventually I will use only Evanger's canned alone with the dry and rotate flavors between the Evanger's canned turkey/chicken and beef and Innova canned (offering 3 different canned). some dogs get bored and will eat the same thing out of routine, some stick to it while other won't.
Evanger's is like feeding raw with out the raw factor, it is cooked but all meat. They have another canned line that includes bones and chunks..be very careful with this especially with puppies remove any slivers. I have not used the chunks and bones yet since what I am doing works.
Try variety...it may help. Cali has attempted to eat by herself for 5 days straight then I switched foods and she wanted me to feed her. We will attempt to get her to eat on her own again. I think she likes my attention when I feed her. A trainer once told me that you should hand feed your dog every once in a while, it builds a bond and it helps to cut down on food aggression.

did anyone say- "wanna a- cookie"? |
| Barked: Wed Jul 1, '09 7:12am PST | | | | | | Forgot to add something, check the ingredients on your dry kibble if it contains citric acid and you add water, it can cause bloat and make the dog's tummy hurt.
Just a thought. | | | | |
