well, my baxter has a 5 inch long tail.
It has been embarrassing at times in the past.
When he is alert it is just out there, so crooked too.
He has also bumped it on things and it has hurt him. I was so close to getting it fixed. Then some guy was like giving me a lecture about it. I didn't know the guy. But he made a comment about his tail and I came in the dog's defense. But, the man insisted that it was okay so politely.
I gave him that curious look and let him continue on talking. His story was about his dog's tail and that he bred the dog and one of his pups had the tail
Over all he said he told the man to leave it. But, disatisfied with that the other guy had the dog's tail fixed at a vet's office. He said the dog's Spirit changed. So, was very interesting.
I can not tell you only that, it is a fault of the tail some how popping back up from one of the dog's ancestrial backgrounds?? Or that back in the pedigree one of the females were accidentally mated with a small non boston dog?? My dog is registered but,..... the people had the female outside on a farm. Don't know??? But, my dog has a tail, weird and crooked, but has one. However he looks, he is the smartest and most outgoing dogs especially with children I have ever saw. He is a people dog and loves other dogs. He used to play with our rabbits. For now, 8 years he has brought my family great joy!

Some Bostons are born with long tails. You can have them docked as puppies.

Sometimes the long crooked tails will be stiff and the dog will cry out if the tail is bumped. Your vet can remove the tail as an adult but it is more of a major operation then. They will knock your dog out so there isn't any pain.

I had a Boston That had to have it's tail removed because the tail pressed against the body and bored a hole in the dogs skin. After recovering, this dog was just fine. It didn't alter her personality at all.
