Emma loves to bark. She will bark whenever she pleases. I guess it's partly my fault for teaching her that trick.. My bad.. haha! I sure do love her though..

Sekhmet and I hardly ever bark. We don't bark when playing like our Aussie mix brother (who can't shut up for anything and barks with every breath he takes), or for attention (unlike that other dog in our house), unless we need to go out. Even then it's just one little woof (unlike certain GSD/Aussie mixes who barkbarkbarkbarkbark
barkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbark until Sekhmet jumps on his head and tells him to shut up).

However, when a stranger comes, we can be very barky. Also, at flyball when I am in my crate waiting for my turn, I bark so much my entire crate jiggles smile

So, BC's can bark, we're just more discriminating about it than Shelties or Aussies, and certain obnoxious barky GSD/Aussie mixes who will remain nameless.

geeze i bark an aweful lot. lol. but its mostly when someones at the door, or my friends next door alet me that someone stange is walkin by, i usually whine at the door, pretending i need to potty tell im outside, then i sit at the fence n bark away with them, i also love to bark at my mom a few times to get her attention when outside and i NEED her to throw the damn ball. lol. but i am good at "hush"ing when told too. =)

They are not by nature yappy dogs. Usually only bark when they think it is necessary. My dogs do have other vocalizations, that are really pretty funny - somewhere between a howl and a yodel when they are excited.

I'm new here and I just got a BC mix with a Lab and he doesn't bark at all. He's a very shy dog getting to be much better at things now, but just wondering if it was normal. Just reading all of this it makes me feel better that nothings wrong with him.

I was told that it's not a BCs nature to bark when herding so maybe not barking much is tapped from that herding instinct.
