Anyone know about painting numbers on hunting dogs for trials?

This is a place to gain some understanding of dog behavior and to assist people in training their dogs and dealing with common behavior problems, regardless of the method(s) used. This can cover the spectrum from non-aversive to traditional methods of dog training. There are many ways to train a dog. Please avoid aggressive responses, and counter ideas and opinions with which you don't agree with friendly and helpful advice. Please refrain from submitting posts that promote off-topic discussions. Keep in mind that you may be receiving advice from other dog owners and lovers... not professionals. If you have a major problem, always seek the advice of a trainer or behaviorist!

Tessie, there is a world of difference between hunters dumping dogs and the hoax they were helping perpetuate (IE a game where dogs were being freeze branded then hunted/killed for points or money). Their participation in this hoax hurts their credibility in the long run, but if anything, this has shown how easy it is to use social media to perpetuate hoaxes and how the clueless masses eat it up.

Also, having looked into some of their other practices, they have completely lost all credibility in my book. When you are soo money/fame hungry that you won't let other members of your group go out unless they have a camera crew with them, routinely step in and disrupt other rescue groups fundraisers (see the link I posted for just one instance and understand he has done it to others as well, including former members of his own group), and are otherwise AW'ing in ways that aren't rescuing or helping any animals, you are no longer benefiting animals, only yourself.

I don't just blame Rescue Ink, but also feel the Greenville-Greene County Humane Society. If they had just wanted to bring light to the issue of hunters dumping dogs after hunting season, I wouldn't have an issue with it, but again, don't use an obvious field trial dog and don't lie. In fact, if you (general you...in this case the G-GCHS or any other shelter) want to highlight that issue, give us some real numbers on how many dumped dogs you are getting and when they are coming in. Then again, to do it and do it right, they would also have to give us the numbers on how many hunting dogs get picked up during hunting season and reclaimed.

Lilith, apparently some hunting beagles are a bit of a separate type than show beagles. Not as stalky looking as the show beagles.

So they can tell the difference between field Beagles and show Beagles, but not freeze-branded or not? smile

I know branding when applied to humans as a form of body mod - and those pictures of the dog don't show branding. It's pretty apparent the dog is bleached - something I'm quite familiar too, if I may say.. laugh out loud

Lillith, it is also common to use Beagle/Walker crosses. She looks like one of the smaller Walkers to me; I've seen them from Harrier size to huge monsters that weigh 100 pounds.

Good points, Scooter! way to go There's plenty of truth and sadness in the plight of animals without manufacturing, misleading, and misappropriating. way to go

I want to spend my energy and limited funds for donations as wisely and helpfully as possible . . . not on some media hounds with a schtick who create any 'ol kinda s-storm to keep up their "brand". BS me so blatantly and you're cred goes right in the toilet--if you're BSing about this, what else are you bs-in' about? This is my first impression of Rescue Ink--never heard of them before, so there they go . . .

I love the way they keep reiterating on their page: "we will not be intimidated . . ."

Augusta, my line of thought regarding donations is if they're running commercials on cable networks or have their own tv show, they probably don't need my money.

I posted every link I could find that this was false, dogs like this have shown up in Robeson County, Marion County and nobody said "Boo" so RI says "oh my God they're hunting dogs" and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. On thread it says this poor soul sat in the Shelter til it's euth date and nobody claimed her. And they follow up their story with something along the lines of "we had to sneak her out and keep everyone anonymous for fear of retribution" well call me crazy if you don't know who owns the dog how can you say your life is in peril? AND I pointed out if this was a common/regular occurrence wouldn't you see more dogs with gunshots/wounds or dead with bullet wounds and numbers? the post below RI panic stricken circus of a post is their "Casino Night" looking to sell tickets...coincidence?

LoL Zephyr...that line does come off as bull headed doesn't it. Who's intimidating people who rescue animals? More like "once our minds are made up, there's no changing them...even if the facts suggest otherwise."
