When I got my puppy Romeo I was toled he was a Rottie/Shep mix. However, I was at work (At petsmart) and this elderly couple approached me and had the spitting image of Romeo with them, only she was a little girl. They told me she was a Beauceron. I looked up the breed and it explained EVERYTHING about his behaviors and such - but I figured I would try and see what other Beauceron owners thought. Any tips?

Beaucerons are a pretty uncommon breed for a dog to be mixed with. I am not saying that it isn't possible, because it sure is. But it is far more common for the dog to be mixed with something else, Rott, Dobe, Shepherd since they are such common breeds in the US. Some tips is the double dew claws, the longer, rougher coat, the ear shape, and the "J" tail are big indicators. Most breeders of Beaucerons are highly responsible and see to it that there dogs are never mixed with anything. From looking at your dogs pictures I would go with your dog being a Rotti and Shepherd mix. The head shape and ears are all wrong for a Beauce. There aren't any good standing or side shots so its hard to see body style... but feel free to check out Moxie's photos. There are some side photos there to get a good look at. Beaucerons have a very LONG and thin body style with very long legs. Does your dog have any of the above characteristics ("J" tail, double dews, rough mane)?

After looking at your pictures, i have to partialy disagree with arc's assesment. Your pictures are of him as a puppy, it is very hard to tell how his body will grow. I think, however, that his snout and head are very much like that of a beauceron. The AKA specifies that show beaucerons must have rear dewclays to be be concidered for competition, this does not mean they must have them to be a beauceron. It is expected, but given the way pure-bred dogs are bred, some genetic markers like rear dewclaws can become reccessive. My beauceron was born with only one rear dewclaw and its only connected by skin. My dog also has very soft shiney fur. I have come accross beauceron breeders whos dogs also have soft fur. The 'J' tail is a pretty significant characteristic. Also, his height and body style. They are stereotypically very narrow at the hips, long in the ribs, sleek, and have an attentive stance. I think he looks just like my dog when he was a puppy. Try to measure a bit by his personality (just remember that descriptions of dogs, just like people, are not end all be all, nature has varients).
