I am crying as I am typing this up to you guys, but my husband is a cop & he went on the worse call ever. He went to a house where people called in saying a lady had left her dogs for a long period of time & he went there & there were a total of 7 dogs all chained up, and they looked to be pits, 3 of which were dead cuz of starvation. Said there were 2 pups looked to be only about 6wks old & one pup was so hungry it was eating the other dead pup. He called to see if the guy that picks up strays would come and get the dogs but he got told they only pick up strays!!!! My husband is so upset. He can't remove the dogs or he will get into big trouble. He said he is going to go to somebody & try to get a court order to remove the dogs. I told him if that fails to give me the address & I will call the ASPCA in the morning first thing! I will be sure to tell them that in this small county we live in that we just don't have the resources here to help animals like that in need & something needs to change about that. I am SO freaking upset at how people can do their animals I mean, if you don't want to take care of them then DON'T HAVE ANY! OMG I am just SO upset

I prayed for these sweet pitbulls last night... this morning my prayer was answered. My husband said he broke the law last night & removed the dogs. He couldn't remove the adult dog because there was no place to put that dog since he is a K9 officer & has a big german shepherd in the back seat. Anyhow, the pups were removed. They are in a shelter. The lady at the shelter said she is going to go today and remove the adult dog herself. He took pictures of the dogs for evidence because he said he knows something will get started out of all of this because he wasn't suppose to remove the dogs.
I got on the ASPCA website & it says for our area to contact your local police, but all local police can do is put charges on the dog owners, so what good is that doing for the dogs???? NOTHING! I am still going to call the ASPCA any dern way & complain because this is bullcrap! Our county needs the funds here to have someone designated to remove pets from abusive situations.

So I just reported it to the ASPCA.... the lady just couldn't get over it... I told her that there is a great need for something to be done in this county I live in to help abused animals get removed from conditions like this. She said someone will be getting in touch with me about it.

The pups are at http://prcspca.org so if anyone can donate or foster or provide a great permanent home that would be wonderful!

I really hope your husband doesnt get into too much trouble for doing the right thing. That is a really stupid law, if they were children the police would have the right to remove them. I hope all the surviving dogs find a happy ending.hug

I talked to the Picayune Animal Shelter (http://prcspca.org) and they informed me that they put the pitbull puppies to sleep.... said they were in too bad of shape. I asked if they got the adult pitbull & she said yes but it is on hold until the Sheriff Dept tells them what to do with the dog. However, she informed me that they PUT DOWN EVERY PITBULL that comes in there EVEN IF IT RESEMBLES A PITBULL IN ANY WAY!!!!! I was furious! The lady said they are too much of a liability. She said if they were to adopt them out, who is to say that they won't bite someone. I proceeded to tell her that I have 3 pitbulls, one from the side of the road & NEVER had a problem with any of them. I told her I have alot of friends that have pitbulls & they are great dogs & they are what people make them out to be. I told her that I was sure glad she shared this information with me so that I could pass it along to everybody I done asked to help out in this situation!

PS - I sure as heck CAN'T WAIT till ASPCA contacts me so that I can inform them that pitbulls are NOT OUTLAWED HERE BUT BEING PUT DOWN!!! I would just love to hear their take on it!

I appreciate each and every one of you, and I am sorry for any inconvenience and PLEASE DON'T DONATE TO THIS HUMANE SOCIETY

OMG Chevy that's awful. Kudos to your husband for going in and getting those poor pups out unfortunately it was probably better that they were put to sleep instead of having to die of starvation. Poor dogs. And I don't understand why the police can't remove a dog off of the premesis if they were abandoned. That's cruel to leave them there.

Chevy- I am so sorry to hear the sad end to your story.hug

I'm even more sorry that I cannot say I am surprised by the shelter's actions. Pits get the worst of unfair treatment, as attested to by these blog posts.

Valentine - These dogs should never have had death by lethal injection or starvation as their only choices. Every dog deserves a fair assessment and chance at a good home.

Chandler- I'm not saying that starving to death or lethal injection should have been their only option. Maybe the pups were really truly that bad off that there was no hope for a recovery. I'd personally rather be put to sleep than starve to death, they were already in so much pain and misery I'm sure. I believe every dog should have a chance at life, but under the circumstances they can get very ill from eating another dog that is already deceased and maybe they already were showing signs of illness. So much can come from a situation like that.
