Arrival Story:
A photo of an adolescent Agnes landed on a Newf-mix Rescue listserv because the little ruff around her neck made her resemble a Newf...a bit. I was on that list, searching for a Newf-mix - a Newf is known for it's easy-going mellowness. I told the list I'd adopt Agnes, and a volunteer pulled her from a kill-shelter in Ohio and fostered her for a week until we could make the drive to get her - 5 hours each way. As soon as we saw her, we knew she was NOT a Newf-mix, but a Border Collie mix - taking us from one of the most mellow breeds to one of the most high-strung breeds. Not about to return her to a pound, we took her home and asked ourselves, Can we handle a Border Collie??!!! Gaaah!!! Friends with Border Collies assured me that some are calm and with enough exercise, she would be fine. And, with her Retreiver genes, she did not need to be busy all day long. Whew! We both work from home and find that after an hour outside, our dogs rest for three hours. Then, out again! We fell in love with her, of course, and now are so grateful that she's our family. We cannot even believe that someone dumped her!
