Last night, our friend Nate brought his brother and father over to hang out with us. They are visiting him in Boulder from CT.
I put you outside because I knew they were coming, and let you play around in the back yard for a little while. Chris told me I was 'overthinking' things because I didn't want you in the house when they came in... so just to show him, I let you inside.
Lo and behold, as soon as they knocked on the door you went into your 'protection mode' and started barking your head off... As Chris went to answer the front door, I let you out the back door. You kept barking at them (the back door is glass, so you could see them in the house)... You must have been so frustrated, seeing them, but not being able to get near them!
After a few minutes, I took some treats outside and worked on some obedience with you. You calmed right down as I asked you to perform some of your behaviors, like 'touch' and sit and down. After just a minute, I thought you were ready to come inside. I opened the door, and let you in just enough so I could shut the door behind you, and had you sit there. I gave you treats as you quietly watched everyone move around. You didn't seem too nervous - you weren't grabbing treats from my hands, and you didn't feel tense.
Nate's dad had some treats in his pocket (for their dog, who came on the trip), and fed them to you, but you got nervous when he went to pet you. So, instead, we went out and got your Wubba from the car!
As soon as the toy was in the house, I could tell you were much more calm. I handed the toy to Nate's little brother (about 16 y.o.), who tossed it for you. You didn't seem comfortable letting him take it from you, so I asked for it, and handed it right back to him.
After just a few minutes, you were comfortable bringing it straight to him! You also brought it to his dad! They really enjoyed watching you catch the Wubba in the air, and thought it was awesome how well-behaved you are, so they continued playing with you for the next few hours as we talked.
Around 23:00, we sat down to watch a movie, and you promptly fell asleep on your mat in the living room. You totally crashed! You didn't move an inch when people walked by you... you must have been really tired and (I'm so happy to say!) comfortable!
You didn't wake up until they left the house around 1.
I think this is a great breakthrough for us, Mina! Your Auntie Lexi is coming with her boyfriend Jim on May 5th, and I've been so worried about how you were going to react to them in the house! But now it seems you can take that in stride. I'm so proud of you!
And of course, as always, you've continued to help me by doing your tasks. I barely have to prompt you anymore. And it's been wonderful, because I've been especially stressed with school.
And here I've been so down on our progress... yet again, you surprise me Mina!

You underestimate Mina and you. I am so happy for you. You've made great strides--both of you.
