Arrival Story: Cherokee was about 6 months old when he was rescued from the pound. A lady was bringing in two puppies to the pound and my Mum was taking our Alaskan Malamute to be put to sleep (he had a very bad skin disease)
My Mum didn't want to immediatly get a new dog but the women said she couldn't keep the puppies and was going to take them into the pound, so my Mum being the big animal lover that she is took one of the puppies home that day (this was Cherokee's brother, Smokey) She talked about it all night and went back the next morning and HAD to get Cherokee.
Cherokee was always "my dog" (even though i was only 11 at the time) and Smokey belonged to my brother. When my brother brought his own house and moved out i went to live with him and we HAD to take our dogs with us. Smokey died about 2 yrs later.
I then met my husband and got married, we moved into our own place and my brother told me i needed to have "my dog" with me. Cherokee is such a sweet and loving dog, he is so great around children, especially my 4yr old and 3 yr old nieces. He is a little protective of his family and his yard but it's great to have a dog love you so much.
Cherokee was not doing so well over this past week so yesterday (8/15/2010) we had to take him to the vet and make the choice to let him go. For the past week he was unable to move, he hadn't eaten for 4 days and was not drinking any water, we knew it was time to end his suffering. It was the hardest thing we've ever had to do to see him go but he is no longer suffering and is at peace now.
