He likes playing with flirty Penny and Bailey, humping any pillow he can find, pulling stuffing out of any pillow he can find, rolling around on bathroom towels and dirty clothes, licking the noses of new people he meets and playfully barking/growling.

He dislikes being held, having his sleep disturbed and having his nails clipped.
Favorite Toy:
He loves all toys: squeaky balls, ropes, pull toys and hard bones.

I am a beagle-mix, I love anything edible!
Favorite Walk:
He loves to walk around the neighborhood.
Best Tricks:
He is great at ball catching and retrieving toys in the house; of course, he has not quite mastered the Leave It command yet!
Arrival Story:
One day in May 2006, I was looking at the Petfinder site just to see which beagles were available for adoption in our area. I came across this one posting for a beagle/cattle dog mix named Henry. His coloring was quite unique and I was instantly drawn to him, but I was not sure if we were ready to add yet another beagle to our home. I decided to call the SPCA in Phila. anyway, just to see if he was still available. As luck would have it, he had recently been brought to that shelter and was still available for adoption. My husband and I made the trip to Phila. within 2 days to fill out an application and meet him. He looked smaller than our other dogs and he had an abundance of nervous energy. Despite that extra energy, we really did not have to think about it too long before making the decision to adopt him. Within a few hours, we were back at home, introducing him to his new beagle family. He did not know what to make of our gang at first; everyone was so curious and he just wanted to be left alone. Over time, he became best friends with Penny and Bailey. He definitely has his quirky ways about him, and he has the most expressive ears of any dog that we have met; they are a true barometer to how he is feeling about something. He continues to challenge us to this day with his energy, stubbornness and semi-destructive behaviors, but we just love how he has added some extra umph to our family life! SAD UPDATE: We had to have Toby put to sleep on 9-17-09. He was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer just 2 weeks ago. We are heartbroken over his loss, but know that he is in a better place now.
Bio:
I used to live with a family in PA, but they surrendered me to a shelter after my dad owner was called to active duty in Iraq. I have cattle dog energy and beagle stubbornness, so maybe that is why my mom owner could not keep me. Maybe I was too much of a handful for one person to endure. I just do not know. Anyway, I was placed in one shelter, and then moved to another bigger shelter with lots of noisy dogs. I did not like being inside that small kennel. When a family came to visit me, I was brought into a room with couches and chairs. I had so much pent-up energy that I kept running in circles around the room, stopping on occasion to jump on the couches and sniff all of the doggie scents. I just could not help myself. Even though I was not on my best behavior, the family wanted me anyway! They buckled me safely in the back seat of their truck, and started their journey home. I was so tired that I fell asleep next to my new mom. When I got to my new house, 4 other doggies were anxiously waiting to sniff me. I was NOT too keen on that idea and let them know it with a few growls! It took a bit of time, but soon we all became friends! I was so lucky to be adopted on 5-27-06!
