Puppy Progress: Fenrir, The Early Years

So Smart!

As he gets older we notice that he looks at us like he is really trying to figure out our actions. I think he is the smartest dog I have ever owned. Everytime I turn the camera on to get a candid picture of him, he hears the noise the camera makes when it turns on and he gets up from what he is doing. But if I play a song on the computer he won't get up for that. He remembers what the sound of the camera means I think.

Dog Park

We were so proud of our baby today! He and big sister Roxy went to a dog park together and both had a blast. We were especially proud of Fenrir because he socialized so well with so many dogs! There were a ton of dogs there. A Rhodesian Ridgeback, a Saint Bernard, two huge Great Danes, some pit bulls and a ton of adorable mutts! He did not get in any fights, and he played very well.

Neutered

Today we took little Fenrir to be neutered. There is a special program here in Bakersfield through the SPCA that enables pet owners to get their animals spayed and neutered for a fraction of what the Vet costs. However, this means they took him to Fresno for the procedure. So we don't get to pick up our baby boy until tomorrow :(

Most of Fenrir's baby teeth have fallen out, but he has not gotten his adult canines yet.

We have noticed a few black hairs sprouting on the top of Fenrirs forehead, and the black hairs at the tip of his tail seem to be climbing up toward his back.

34 lbs!

Fenrir is getting big! He just finished his vaccinations two weeks ago and he now weighs 34 lbs! His face is visibly longer than just a month ago. His coat is very sleek, but so far he staying the same color. He has dark hairs at the tips of his ears and tail, but no visible dark marking anywhere else.

Skin

About a week ago we noticed that certain spots on the skin on Fenrir's underside was changing from pink to black. So now he has a belly that looks like a dairy cow. He got his second set of puppy vacinations on 3/17/09 and he now weighs 15 lbs!!!

Energizer puppy!

We have noticed that Fenrir has a lot more energy than he did when he first came to our home last week! He looks as if he has gotten noticeably bigger as well. He is growing so fast!

We aren't sure if he is ever going to howl. We played wolf howls for him on our lap tops, but he did not respond by howling.

Floppy Ear!

We picked up Fenrir on a Saturday ( 2/21/09 to be exact) an we noticed he had one floppy ear, which can be seen in all the pictures that are currently posted of him. To our surprise on Monday evening we noticed that his ear had straightend out and he now had two upright ears! It must have happened very quickly.

Fenrir has really bonded to Roxy and loves to play with her. Roxy is jealous though, but she seems to be bonding with him despite it and she will allow him to share her bed at night most of the time.
