Daddy's Valentine!

It's that time again, and Daddy is looking for his new valentine! I would like to introduce him to my girl, Pebbles.
Pebbles was only 18 months old when she was brought into my work to be euthanized. She had a lump on her toe and the owner suddenly became allergic. It was amazing how easy it seemed for the owner to sign the paperwork, and hand me the leash as she walked out the door, not even saying goodbye. Pebbles looked up at me, seemingly confused, I would guess wondering why her owner had just walked out without her. I gazed down at this beautiful pup, into her innocent eyes, and knew that she didn't deserve to die. She deserved a chance to show the world what she really was capable of. The veterinarian agreed to give her a chance.
For 3 weeks, Pebbles sat in a kennel at the vet, waiting for a home. I would go by her kennel many times a day, and would see a smile and tail wag. Anyone else that passed got a growl. On my off days, I would take her for long walks to help ease the anxiety of the kennel. Pebbles and I became instant friends, and it was then decided...she would come home with me. And so it was. The veterinarian donated the surgery to remove the growth from her paw, and she came to her forever home.
It took many months to get Pebbles acclimated to a new life. We are still working on her training several years later, with daily exercise including skating with our Landrollers, walking, and playing with her best friend, our other dog Koda.
A year after adopting her, at the age of 3, she was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. She underwent extensive surgery to correct it. She now has her vision back.
Pebbles also fosters abandoned kittens and puppies. She plays the role of foster mom very well. We volunteer with a rescue group called Hot Water Rescue, which takes in bully breed dogs that are commonly left in pounds and suffer an ill fate.
After a life filled with obstacles that she has overcome, Pebbles deserves to have Daddy as her Valentine. Just like Daddy, Pebbles loves the coolness of a freshly dug hole on a hot day. She also loves to play in the mud. She knows when one of her masters needs her affection, and covers them with kisses. She is my best friend, and has definitely earned her place in her forever home.
