Arrival Story:
I had lost my favorite Rhodesian Ridgeback and decided to downsize a little with another sight hound. I began going to local dog shows to make contact with some breeders. At one show I met 2 ladies that both bred and was talking with them when one mentioned that Amy was a return and needed to be re-homed. She was so much like my RR that I fell in love with her instantly. I continued to follow her to all the local shows in the hopes that the breeder would finally decide that I had the right home for Amy. Finally, just before Christmas in 2005 the breeder asked me when I wanted to take her home. I was caught by surprise but thrilled. Amy was already entered in the big show in Portland,OR so I agreed to bring her home from that show at it's conclussion. We have been constant companions ever since. I have taken Amy to shows and we completed her Championship in the show ring. She is now working on her Championship at Lure Coursing and is half way there.

Two days before my birthday in August 2008 Amy gave me a beautiful little girl who will have her show debut on Valentine's Day, 2009.

The first of the month our lady packed up the car and took Ett, Hairy and me on a long drive. We even stopped and picked up an old friend to go along with us.

We ended up in a place called Eugene, Oregon. As it turned out, there were activities for several days that the people called the Pharaoh Hound Nationals. On Friday, our lady had all three of us entered in the conformation ring at the show. Hairy, who is just 6 months old, made his debut and got 2nd in both the puppy sweepstakes and regular puppy class. Ett did the same as Hairy in her classes.

I was in the Best of Breed ring along with 15 other Pharaoh friends. I was very surprised and our lady was very happy. Of the 15 dogs the judge pulled 8 out to choose from. That is called the judges cut. To my surprise the judge pulled me out! It is the first time our lady and I have made the cut with so many dogs in the ring and some of them being in the top 10 of the country. Our lady told me that I was special and in her mind we won the whole thing.

Well, Ett also has some news so I will go and let her make her post, if she will come back in the house. She has been on the go since we got back home.

Running isn't always a bad thing!

I told you that the mama was going to make me run on the treadmill thing. If your people ever ask you to get on one RUN fast in the other direction.

I did some time on it and hated every minute but at least I got treats when it was over. I guess it must have helped me though because I ran the lure course in Lompoc in July and brought home a trophy! I almost finished the course on my first run but I went far enough to get a score. On the second run I made it all the way to the end and was dead tired. That is more than an old out of shape girl should do. When all was said and done I won the "Turtle Trophy". It was the lowest qualifying score but I did it and some didn't get scored. Made me feel good about myself. Of course the mama was thrilled that I finished at least 1 run.

Now, fast forward to August and more lure coursing in Oregon. We weren't able to travel until Saturday so I only had to run for one day. I was a bit more into it this time and I ran the full course both times. I even followed the plastic bunnies....They think I don't know they are fake......and I didn't cheat. I was getting tired about 3/4 of the way but I didn't quit. I got a blue ribbon for my class and with some help from my sister (and her mom) I got Best of Breed.

Well, that is an update from me. Next I get to go back into the conformation ring at the Pharaoh Hound Nationals. I like to go in the ring, all I have to do is stand there and look pretty. Oh, Oh, I think I just heard something about lure coursing at the Nationals. I'll let you know later.................

As I had last said, the Mama was putting me on the treadmill since I was so out of shape. Well, ocasionally the time gets away from her and I don't have to run on that thing. Of course, I don't remind her. She wants me to run in the lure coursing in Lompoc, CA in a couple weeks. That is another "Good Luck". I'll run but if I get tired I'm going to quit. This old girl just doesn't have to do that kind of stuff any more.

We do get to visit and that is what I do best! We are going to California a few days early to see Rory and his people. This will be a first meeting for Rory and me.

Well, I'll be back after our trip and let you know how it went.
