Arrival Story: We found an add for "Rescue dogs in need of forever homes" but NOT house trained Rufus 9 months and Misty almost 2 years. We did not want a puppy as everyone wants them. We wanted more then any thing to give a dog a second chance at life.---------------------
Rufus is a rescue from Christan Island a Native Community off of Georgine Bay. Rufus's Mom is Pug and his Dad a Lab poor Mommy Pug. The previous owner thought he would just train him self to go out side. When that did not happen Rufus was sent to live in the back yard as a "dumb dog" after the puppy phase wore off. Rufus had the run of the Island as his old owners thought he to would just stay put in the back yard with out any warm dry bed or home and no food or fresh water. Rufus was seen wandering the streets for months in Jan in -30 temps. He was found by a neighbour in her ditch Rufus had hypothermia and was under weight . The neighbour went over and gave him hell. She said sigh him over to the rescue group. And he did no second thoughts or good byes. He said he washes his hands with him. Rufus was saved and taken in though he was not house trained at all. We called and took Rufus in and now he has a loving forever home with us as well as with another rescue his new Sis Misty we got her the same day =]
Bio: A letter from Erica at the Island RescueI am soo happy! I am soo glad I gave them to you guys. I know you will be an awesome home for them! Your kids were soo excited! I think the energy and love from the kids especially will be great for them, I forgot to tell you, I have never seen a dog I've placed do what Misty and Rufus did. Usually they just sit at the door and stay there for awhile, and you have to coax them in the house, and I was very shocked that Misty got up and starting walking around exploring, same with Rufus. They must have been very comfortable, and must have felt the love you guys have had for them already. My mom has been with me for a few drop offs and she said the same thing, and she loved how much stuff you guys already had for them. Let me know how their first night goes, I find that is the worst because they aren't used to sleeping inside.
When Mommy thinks back to when the day she saw you pic in the add you where 9 months old and we could not chose Daddy wanted you to so we got you both and your new fur sister the same day. It was love at first sight we just had to have you as well and save you from the cold and the fear you once knew and show you the softer side of life. I promised you to that you are now safe and have a home and a family.
You came a long way a car ride then a boat ride then the final miles to our house. You where so out going and just so happy and excited and bonded with the family and new rescue Sis Misty so well. We felt it was meant to be. You are one silly boy and smart to not dumb like you old owner said you where.
You where fearful of anyone who can down to fast to pet you thinking you would be no doubt hit. And where under weight and fearful of mops and brooms due to abuse. You fit in right away and the kids where so happy they lite up. you are such a part of or lives that i could not see ours with out you. You are now a confident little guy and it was so amazing to see your firsts.
You ate till you couldn't no more with a full tummy you happily payed with toys and kids and Misty. Now our family is complete you had a bath and you where like an new little man though you didn't like it you did ok. In no time you where house trained i would say in about a week NOT a dumb dog like the former owner had said.
You have touched our lives in so many ways you bring laughter to the house and a joy to have as part of our family. You to help lift my depression. We love you dearly and would not change a thing. I promise as i did the first day we meant that you are safe and have a family and a home.
Love you my little man Ty for letting us in your heart and be part of your life we love yous with all our hearts and soul
This year is a very special holiday season for us it will be our first one in doors with a real family. You see last year when Mommy rescues us we lived outside even in -40 temp on a native island reserve.
We only lived inside as a pup but was put out when the puppy phase wore off.
So this year we are having so much fun love and cheer its sooo pawsome. We never knew just how much fun the holidays really where till this year. It's pawtastic more then a rescue could have ever asked for =]
