09/10/11 How I spent my day in the spotlight

Well pals, I got into a bit of trouble today. Early this morning before momma even had a chance to see that I was one of the featured diaries of the day, around 3AM, momma woke up and had to go potty. All was well until she stepped in some liquid on the floor. She immediately turned on the overhead light and there on the linoleum were two very large puddles of pee. She cleaned it up and was saying all kinds of naughty words that she was directing at Coco and me but at 3AM there really wasn’t too much she could do except for to put us outside for a bit just in case we still needed to go potty.

When we came back in we got up on the daybed and momma climbed in too and we went back to sleep. About three hour later momma was tossing and turning and then her feet found a BIG wet spot on the bed. Do I need to tell you that words were again being said as she stripped everything off the bed and put them in the washing machine? It’s a good thing the bed has one of those covers that prevents liquid from steeping through.

By now daddy was up and asked momma if she got up on the wrong side of the bed because she looked like she was upset, to which she said YOUR DOGS PEED ON MY BED!!!! Daddy of course corrected her and pointed out that we are actually HER dogs – BOL

Coco and I were ushered outside and momma stood there and watched me pee and then let us both back inside. I went hobbling over to momma, squatted and peed right in front of momma and daddy on the kitchen tile.

Daddy couldn't believe I had done that and tried to scold me but momma told him that something must me wrong so she was going to take me back to the vet. Coco was taken to the groomers because when I peed on the bed we both laid in it. While momma took Coco to the groomers, daddy gave me a bath. When momma got home from dropping Coco off she called the vet and they said to bring me in.

Anyhow, the vet did blood work and took a sample of my urine and will have the results on Monday. The vet did prescribe some antibiotics for me to take just in case it is a urinary tract infection.

While momma was at Pet Smart she bought me a belly band and I’ve had to wear it all afternoon. Momma said something about not wanting to sleep in pee again – BOL

I hope your day was better than mine.

My kitteh bro, Manytoes, says:

Wow!
Some pee too much and some can't pee at all...
and it always ends up with a trip to the vet.
Ain't life grand!

Isn't it great that your human wants to rule out medical problems first, before she just assumes you're being "bad"? Hurray, human! (Even if it does mean another trip to the VET!)

Aw, we're sorry for all your troubles. I've been having messy accidents at night cause my belly's still upset and like your mommy, mine hates having to clean it up but knows there's somethin wrong and can't be mad at us.

I'm sorry about the accidents Puff. I know you aren't a bad dog. I think you just have a little bladder that can't hold a lot. Has your Mommy tried puppy pads so that you can use them when you can't wait to go outside?

Oh no, we really hope everything is OK with you physically, but no belly bands :(
I had a very hard time to get that potty was only to be done outside, but mom got a small guide called "Way to go", by Patricia McConnell and Karen London and set a schedule, being very vigilant, like a hawk, and when impossible: crate, teaching me to love, love, love my crate before of course. Tell your mom not to worry and don't despair, it's a lot of work, but there is hope! Hang in there!

Puff - when I had that issue it turned out I had bladder stones and had to have them removed and go on a special prescription diet. But if the V-E-T didn't find any stones in your urine while you were there you are probably safe from that. He spun my pee around and, found some gritty stuff and then in I went for Xrays.
Hang in there and feel better soon.
