Leave a bone for Tea Shop Girls

Nicknames: Schirley Schmidt is usually just called Shirley -- Maud is just Maud with the family. "Miss Maud" to those we meet on our walks. -- And Ruby is just Ruby

Quick Bio:
Arrival Story: HOW SHIRLEY CAME TO LIVE WITH HER MOM: In 2004, our family went to a wedding. We went to a pet shop & there she was in the window! I fell in love right on the spot. But being there for a wedding, I could hardly purchase a dog! But I thought about her all weekend! A week later, my grandson showed up at my house with that little Boston in his arms. It was a few days before Christmas, and he had driven all the way to Pennsylvania just to buy her for me! She just looked like a "Shirley" to me! In time, my grandchildren began calling her "Shirley Schmidt" after the Candace Bergen character on Boston Legal. So Shirley Schmidt she became. I could never express how much I love my Shirley. She loves me unconditionally. I have a best friend for life in Shirley Schmidt. She is always in a good mood. She enjoys looking out the front door and watching the school children as they walk by. A few of them know her from the park and will yell "Hi Shirley," which makes her little rump REALLY wiggle. Shirley loves children, all dogs & cats and even squirrels! She loves watching snow fall and rain come down. And she adores when the Grands (my three grandchildren) stop by to visit. Of course, she believes that they ONLY come to see HER! HOW MAUD FOUND HER FOREVER HOME: My Granddaughter loves Shirley so much and was determined to find a Boston rescue of her own. When we went to a rescue to select one, she fell in love with Ruby, who she adopted immediately. I saw this poor senior citizen in the corner laying on a pillow, looking as if she'd been through this many times before and knew she wouldn't be chosen. Her story was sad and unfortunately typical. As she aged, her original family felt she had no purpose and no place in their home. She had been left outside a veterinary office, tied to a post with a note that read "Too old. Please put this old girl down." They left no information, not even her name. As soon as I picked her up, she rested her head up against me and I knew right then that Shirley had a new older sister! I named her Maud and took her home that day. The two girls hit it off immediately, and Shirley is so patient with having a new sister in the home. And being loved is turning Maud's life around, as she is already beginning to act much younger!

Bio: UP-DATE: Shirley & Maud lost her dear Mother (my Aunt) in November 2009. Though they miss her terribly, they both live with their "brother" and his family now ... so Shirley, Maud & Ruby are all together and love being in the same home. We have added them to our family page because their Mom really wanted them to remain on Dogster. Their new combined page will stay as a memorial to her.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Shirley Schmidt. I am so new to Dogster that I wasn't aware that I could keep a Diary on here, too. I love to journal, so I am sure I will find lots to write about and share with all of you.
I started my own group, TEA WITH A BOSTON T. It is for female Dogsters & Catsters only, and we will have a once a month Tea Party on the first Sunday afternoon of each month (beginning in January 2009). So ladies, while the men watch football on television, we can enjoy the fine art of gracious living among friends. I do hope you'll join us. My group can be found at:

I look forward to many happy times on Dogster and to receiving many wonderful Pup Pal requests.
A Friend to All ,
Shirley (Schmidt)
