Nicknames: Charlie, Char, Charlie Barley, Charbear, Charlie Bear, Charboo, Baby Boy, Charbar, Sir Charlemagne Leonidus Star, Hun, Sea Bluff's I Came I Sat I Conquered, Puppy/Pup, Charlie Man, Fuzzy.
Birthday: April 5th 2008
Likes: Feet, socks, and tree branches.
Pet-Peeves: Any sensory overloads- such as too many dogs or people or new things at once. He's still in the process of being socialized properly. He also hates the first three seconds of being in his crate, and socks being put back on feet.
Favorite Toy: SOCKS. Char is obsessed with socks. He also ADORES evergreen tree branches with the needles still attached, laser lights, kong toys stuffed with evo treats, and a small d0g tennis ball.
Favorite Food: He loves anything that used to run, fly, swim, crawl, or turn sunshine into chlorophyll. His favorite foods are salmon and cheese, though.
Favorite Walk: He loves Devonian Park/Taylor Beach in Metchosin, BC.
Best Tricks: He can do a pirouette (spin on hind legs), and for the most part has excellent basic obedience. His favorite trick to perform has to be speak though, he will grow-wow-owwowow for anything!
Arrival Story: Char was from an 'oopsie' litter between my mother's Coton de Tulear girl and a friend's dog who she was told was neutered. His sister was sold to a wonderful home with three kids and a cat, and Char spent the first year of his life living with my mother in Victoria, BC, with me making regular visits to imprint some early obedience. In late June after I finish high school I will be bringing him to live with me in Seattle.
Bio: Charlie is a very smart dog. It takes him very little time to learn new commands. He has next to zero toy drive, however using food motivation I trained him to retrieve any object I ask him to. He has some reactivity problems that are under control. They have not escalated past vocalization and lunging at other dogs and people when confined to a leash, and during these fits of reactivity he is responsive to commands and I can put him in a down stay until the person or dog passes. Char is the weirdest, quirkiest dog I've ever known. He has so many unusual habits that I don't know where to begin to describe them. He is obsessed with evergreen tree branches, I discovered this one day when out in the yard with the dogs picking up a large douglas fir branch that fell onto the lawn. He raced up to it and tried to chew/bite/grab it. I spun it around me in a circle and he chased it, and he leapt to try to grab it. He does this still, every time I find a good stick for him. He has the strangest habit of sitting on peoples' feet. Whether you're sitting at the table eating dinner, watching TV, or even standing up in the kitchen for a moment, he will come and plant his butt on your feet. And stay there. He has gotten accidentally kicked countless times for this strange habit, but he has yet to learn better. He also is quite manic about socks. For a dog with no prey or toy drive, something about socks, whether smelly or clean, drives him up the wall, and he will become a running, panting, retrieving, tug-of-warring fiend when the socks come out.
Mom finally got a new apartment in Seattle that allows dogs!! In only a few short weeks, I'm coming home with her permanently!
Mom has been up to her elbows in boxes and has a ton of unpacking to do, and dog-proofing the apartment (it's already been cat-proofed, but I'm more trouble than them. :DD) but the week before her 18th birthday (on the 18th of June), she's going to Victoria, having a fun birthday celebration with her mom, and coming home with me!!
The only thing Mom is worried about is how her kitties are going to like me.. I'm a very likable pooch but Quetzal has never seen a dog before! :o Rosie is supposed to be good with dogs though, so she should be okay.
Sadly for Mom, my coming means that Dani needs to find a new home, because otherwise the apartment pet restrictions will be violated and we could get evicted :( But at least she gets to have meeeee!
