Sun, Sand and a little Surf

I got to spend the day at the beach in Muskegon yesterday. I really, really, really, LOVE THE BEACH! The sun was shining, the sand was warm and there were little waves for me to jump over. Mom had to throw the ball for about three hours. Toward the end she could tell I was tired but I just didn’t want to stop so she threw the ball along the shoreline. I met some nice pups there and I even listened to Mom and Dad. I hope they had as much fun and I did and I hope we get to go again soon. I know it’s a 90 minute drive and gas is $3.89/gal, but gosh darn it, I think I’m worth it.

So . . . Daddy gets home from work a few hours before Mommy and our usual routine is for me to run around the yard while he works in the shop. Yesterday, I had a little extra fun. The pup from next door was over and we running around like crazy, Daddy barely keeping an eye on us when the UPS truck came down the drive. I did the usual bark, bark, bark, but as soon as the driver talked to me I turned into a wagging mess, begging for him to pet me. What can I say, I’m a pushover for attention. The UPS driver was talking to Daddy for a minute so I decided to see if maybe there was a package for me too. Yep, you guessed it; I just hopped on into the truck. I sniffed all the packages, but none had my name on it. Oh well, maybe next time.

Dandy Good Time

Yesterday Mommy finally got around to cutting the grass. It was a great sunny day, but not too hot. Harley (my furiend from next door) came over to play while we watched Mommy exert some physical activity. We were running and barking and having an all around good time and then I noticed them . . . . the DANDELIONS. Little bits of yellowy goodness. I started snacking on them as fast as I could. It was a race between me and the lawn mower as to who could get to them first. Now if you have never eaten a dandelion, don’t knock them until you’ve tried them. I find them quite yummy. I got my fill of flowers, played some more with Harley and did some basking in the sunshine. During all that, the dandelions were working their magic in my belly, fermenting and making dandelion wine. Last night while we were relaxing on the couch the byproduct of fermentation started slipping out. I was farting up a storm and Mommy informs me dandelion farts are quite pungent. I was too tired to notice.

Ichabod Rabbit

Daddy was working in the shop yesterday so he let me out to run around the yard. He never keeps a close eye on me like Mommy does so while he was working I went under the pine trees in search of treasure . . . rabbit poo. Well, I found something even better . . . a rabbit. Ok, so it was dead and stiff as a board but still fun to play with. I drug it out into the yard and that is when Daddy decided to see what I was up to. He saw I had something big in my mouth and came over to investigate. Mr. Rabbit had no head! Daddy is not sure if I ate it or if I found it that way. He took the rest of the rabbit away and Mommy is waiting for me to poo out a rabbit ear. BOL!

December 12 = 1,825

Ok, so I’m a little late posting this, but if you’ve read my previous diary entry you know I was little busy on December 12 with a poo issue. But December 12 was a day of even more significance in my life. It marked day 1,825 in my furever home. Yep, that’s right five years with two people who are absolutely crazy about me and all my silly antics. My story is truly one of good fortune. I was a stray pup wandering the streets somewhere in Kentucky. I got picked up and put in a shelter, but in Kentucky the shelters are very crowded. I was there for about a month when I got a ticket aboard the Rescue Waggin’ (a Petsmart charity). I arrived in Michigan and was in that shelter for about a month. They had an open house and that’s when my pawrents found me and fell in love with me. They can’t believe I was in two different shelters for a month each and no one adopted me. I say it was fate and the fact that I was saving all of my charm for just the right people. Truth be told, I think my pawrents were the only people not put off by my crazy leg humping. So, with all that said I’d like to thank the shelter in Kentucky (sorry I don’t know which one it was), Rescue Waggin’, Capital Area Humane Society, and the two people I know as Mommy & Daddy. Here’s to the next 1,825 days. Cheers!

Just one more thing, next time you’re in Petsmart, go ahead and drop a bit of change in the box, you might just be making some pups dreams come true. Mine did. :)

Toxic Cat Poo

Just got back from a trip to the grandpawrents in Pennsylvania and it was a complete disaster. The first night I was there I found some cat poo in the yard and promptly ate it (those of you who know me well know my love of all things poo). Well, it turned out to be toxic cat poo. Within a couple of days I had molten lava flowing from my backside, every two hours around the clock. I’m not sure who looked worse, me or Mommy without her beauty sleep. Needless to say, I now have my very own dogter in PA. If any pup ever needs a veterinarian near Kennett Square, Dr. Kenneth Barnsley is the man to see. He was so kind and gentle with me and fixed me up lickety split. I’m home now and feeling like my old self. I think from now on I will stick to the organic, free range rabbit turds in my yard. They have never given me a problem.

Ear Update

Mom took me to my vet yesterday for some shots and had her look at my ear. Of course she said it should have been stitched and that made Mom feel bad all over again. The vet did give Mom a regimine of ear soaks and vitamin E oil to soften the skin so it will heal a bit smoother. They are hoping that when the fur grows back you won't even notice it.

I got an owie!

Mom & Dad spent a week in Vegas and I wasn't invited. How rude! So, just to make them feel bad about leaving me I got an owie on my first day at daycare. No one saw it happen, but they sure saw the blood on the floor. Mom thinks somehow my ear got in some other pups mouth. Mom was called and I got shipped off the the vet to see if I needed it to be stitched up (Mom was hoping it could just be glued). The vet could not glue it and he said stitches would be purely cosmetic so I got nothing. When Mom came home and saw how big the owie was she was so upset and wished the vet had stitched it. Now I have a chunk missing out of my ear! I guess I know where the next vacation is going to be . . . off to Beverly Hills to find a top notch doggy plastic surgeon to fix my ear. BOL!

Guests, internet woes, a milestone, and more guests.

Ok, I really did not fall off the face of the earth. It’s just been a crazy summer. This was the year everyone decided to come to Michigan and visit us. First it was Dad’s family at the end of June. His mom, brother and sister spent almost a week here. Everyone lavished me with attention (as it should be) so as a thank you I took them out to the dog beach for a day of sun and fun.

Next was the internet troubles. My people decided to get the driveway paved and needed to move the internet cable from the satellite dish. Well in the process the cable got nicked and our service would come and go. Once they figured out what happened they fixed it, reburied the cable and somehow (Dad it not saying) the cable got nicked again. So, more spotty internet service until it was fixed properly once and for all. Overall, about 2 weeks with unreliable service.

The pawrents had a quick celebration of 10 years of wedded bliss. Dad came through and wowed Mom with some bling . . . she got all teary eyed. He did much better then the whole cinnamon bun fiasco a couple of years back but that’s a long story and we are not supposed to discuss it anymore. I’m proud of you Dad.

Then it was Mom’s family out for a visit. The grandparents from Pennsylvania came and Mom’s sister from Colorado and her family. The best part, the sister brought her two dogs. I had my cousins Sheila and Sophie for a whole week! It was like being at doggy daycare every day. I had so much fun and as a thank you . . . you guessed it . . . I took them all to the dog beach. I say we can keep having company if it means more trips to the dog beach.

Things should be back to normal now. Well, except for the fact that the refrigerator died on Sunday and the new one won’t be here until Saturday. Mom is ok with that, now she claims she has a valid reason not to cook.

Got Sand?

Mom extended her long holiday weekend to include today. Rather than just waste a perfect day, she got brave and took me to the dog beach in Muskegon all by herself. I am very proud of her because sometimes I can be more than two handfuls. I was a good boy for most of the day. It wasn’t crowded but I did make a few furiends. There were a pair of basset hounds and the one just kept doing that silly basset hound bark/bay at me. It was ok, because I was very focused on my frisbee at that time. Then an old English bulldog and cocker spaniel showed up and I crashed their game of fetch. Mom was embarrassed and had to explain to their people that I think all games are a group sport. Truth is I always find somepup else’s toys better than my own. Then Mom thought we would take a rest on the blanket and she could have some lunch . . . yeah, that wasn’t happening. So, more frisbee and more fetch. After about three hours I was getting tired but I wasn’t going to tell Mom that. She knew . . . I was starting to get cranky and not sharing the toys nice anymore. Next thing I know she is packing up the bag and we are on our way home (mental note to self . . . don’t get cranky when tired). On the way home I thought I would settle down for a nice nap, but NO, Mom starting singing. OMD, she was singing to the Steely Dan CD. 1. What human still listens to Steely Dan? and 2. She can’t carry a tune in a bucket, SERIOUSLY. Overall, it was a great day.
