Arrival Story:
I live in Oaxaca, Mexico and saw all of the horrors for dogs on the streets of this large city. In general the people don't give a hoot about dogs nor do they believe in keeping them in a safe place or sterillizing them. This means tons of dogs wandering on the street, reproducing, getting hit and run over by cars daily. I see a dead dog on the street at least 3-4 times a week. I wanted to save at least one from this plight and miraculously found an org here that saves dogs from the street and vaccinates them, sterillizes them, gives Frontline, etc. then adopts them out to good homes (not ones where they'll be let out on the street to wander). I visited this very clean place, met the owner and immediately fell in love with this little girl doggy whom they had just rescued from an abandoned home a couple days before. She had so many ticks on her I couldn't even count, as well as bite marks all over her neck and back. But her tail was wagging and she immediately came up to me and stayed right with me. Needless to say we are inseperable now. She has her own bed next to mine, her own place in my Jeep, and a HUGE place in my heart. I am a single young woman living and working in a different country and I needed a companion. Of course we don't know her exact age but when I got her in July the vet estimated by her teeth that she was 8-9 months. Also, her exact breed mix is a mystery but we are guessing mostly dachshund and black lab. She doesn't look like the typical street dog here so as to her first months in life we don't know, or how the previous owners acquired her. She is a VERY sweet dog, definitely lab personality with a dachshund's stubbornness. Loves kids and other dogs and being around people.

I live and work as a linguist in southern Mexico and on the side like to help out street dogs by giving them food when they wander by my gate.
