Arrival Story: I wanted: a small-ish dog, short hair, short legs, unusual eyes and one that loved cats. Lo and behold there she was, for sale 100 bucks. SOLD! Of course, I didn't count on the stubborn streak and endless play drive rivaling the energizer bunny. But I couldn't take the batteries out of this one!

Bio: Kiwi tricked me. When I met her, she was so sweet and quiet. Little did I know, that she was probably the leader of the pack. She has a spunky personality and doesn't like being told "No". She actually growls a response every time I say it, but she's also the sweetest little thing. She drags her greenie over and sits in my lap while she chews on it. When she's scared, she comes over and sits really close to me for comfort. This little spitfire also cries to be picked up so she can sleep on the bed (it's too high for her to jump up on, little legs, ya know!). The rest of the time, she entertains herself with her toys, the carpet, my shoelaces and the cat.
Kiwi thinks Kee-a is her doll. She holds her by the scruff of the neck and tries to drag her around the apartment, much to Kee-a's dismay. She loves people food, like pieces of chicken, steak, red cabbage, banana chips. Strange dog! She also loves attention and enjoys being petted by anyone. She loves the beach, especially digging in the sand. Too bad there aren't any dog-friendly beaches around.
She was adorable when she was a puppy. Kiwi's all grown up now. She's a very good dog. She listens when I speak to her. She doesn't have very many accidents, only when we leave her for too long. She doesn't chew on anything, doesn't destroy anything, just sleeps in her bed when we're not home. What hasn't changed is the play drive, but maybe it will now that we've got two little ones to keep her busy. She's still my special girl.

after 6 years, she still has not lost her high energy and drive. except now it's cold so she just wants to lay in a warm bed all day. little stinker!

well, kiwi just got some new sisters this weekend. they are 10 weeks old, chihuahua mixes, both tri-colored as well. i've now got three, tri-colored dogs. i didn't plan it that way, it just worked out.
kiwi's not taking too well to having her territory encroached upon by two little, cute snuggle-bugs. it's going to take a lot of treats and a lot of patience and time to get her to warm up. but i'm hoping that they will all be great friends. we shall see...
wish me luck!

After several months and several hundred dollars, we've finally figured out why Kiwi is losing her hair. It's called color-dilute allopecia. She's a dilute-brown or black, something like that. And there is a genetic defect that causes the hair follicles to die, but it doesn't cause any pain and there aren't any other effects, other than the baldness. Poor baby.
Ah well, it's better than a lot of other things she may have had instead. I'm happy that it's not something serious.
Luckily, Kiwi is completely oblivious to the condition. She doesn't seem to notice it at all. She's still happy and healthy and full of kisses for everyone.
