On behalf of my Dad

My Dad has prepared a few words that he would like to express to everyone for all the love and support they have shown leading up to my grandma’s Bridge Crossing Anniversary.

As the dog of the house, an official position I inherited one year ago, he has asked me to deliver his message.

Dear Pup Pals,

In August of last year I was in search of comfort after the passing of my beloved Cookie. What I found was so much more. With each Dogster friend, my heart healed.

Over the last 15 days, I have been fortunate to receive a flood of messages and love that has both overwhelmed me and filled me with so much joy. In these messages, the authors have thanked me for my tribute and voiced what it has meant to them. The truth is, it is all of you who deserve the thanks. You have all inspired me and as a result I was able to spend these days with Cookie through my writing, through the stories.

I’d like to send out a special thanks to Lisa and her pack (Tucker, Vayla, Max, Joey & Alex), Annette and her pack (Winston, Hartie, Abby, Tinsleigh, Kirby & Jordan) and Deb and her pack (Sunny Lee, Stryker & Sydney) for providing me with tremendous encouragement.

Most importantly, I want to thank Cookie. During her life she taught me a great number of things. She showed me what love and loyalty is truly about. In her death, she has continued to show me magical things.

In closing, a life’s journey for me wouldn’t be complete without the words of my favourite singer, with slight modifications, echoing in my mind.

I got a picture of you in my locket
I keep it close to my heart
A light shining in my breast
Leading me through the dark
Fifteen days, fifteen candles
In my window lighting your way
Your favorite record's on the turntable
I drop the needle and pray
Band's countin' out midnight
Floor's rumblin' loud
Singer's callin' up daylight
And waitin' for that shout from the crowd
Waitin' for that shout from the crowd
Waitin' for that shout from the crowd
Waitin' for that shout from the crowd
Waitin' for that shout from the crowd
Waitin' for that shout from the crowd

Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up
Turn it up, turn it up, turn it up, turn it up

Meet me at Cookie’s place, we're gonna have a party

-- Bruce Springsteen

With a heart filled with love and memories, I thank everyone for sharing this with me.

Hi pup pals,

A very sweet pal started a website where you can light a candle for my grandma Cookie. Her bridge anniversary is tomorrow.

I just wanted to pass along the website so those who would like to visit the site and light a candle for her can do so. &gi=NCCRR

Thanks so much for all the love and support during this time.

I also want to send out a very special happy Grandmother's Day to my grandma, Cookie. She has been selected the diary of the day. Way to go, Cookie. We're all so proud of you.

Enjoy your day, Moms. We love you all.

Your pal, Riley

My early morning birthday walk

Hey pup pals,

I had an early morning birthday walk.

It was great fun. Dad was worried that it would rain today, but it was nice. I've posted a few highlights from the walk on my page.

There was a lot to chase and smell this morning. When I got home, I had a pig's ear for breakfast.

Tonight, we're having a roast, just for my birthday. Man, it's going to be great. Rose, did you hear that? A roast! You'll love it, Rosie.

Thanks to my pals for sending me birthday wishes. I'll get back to each of you later after I finish hanging with Mom and doing fun things today.

A few weeks old.

Back then he was known as boy number 4.

Tomorrow . . .

is my birthday!!

I’m going to be 3 years old. Dad has promised me that we’re going to get up early and take a walk in the fields. When he gets home from work he also promises to have a few surprises for me.

Dad has been busy and distant the last few days. When he gets home, I snuggle up against him, but . . .

I can’t help but feel “A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in the presence of my old master.”

The Hunt

Hey pals,

Happy Easter to everyone.

On Friday, my Mom and Dad took me for an Easter Egg hunt. Because there were going to be a lot of dogs taking part, poor Rosie had to stay home. Too bad, I could have used the help. She gets very grumpy towards female dogs so the folks thought it would be best for her to stay home.

Let me tell you, we had to cover a lot of ground to find two cartons worth of eggs. I was too busy sniffing in the bushes to see the eggs right in front of my face. After almost two hours we managed to fill our cartons. When we cracked the eggs open they were filled with dog treats. We also got a great doggie bag (BOL) when it was over. Inside the doggie bag were two packages of bacon treats. Rosie really loved those when we got home. I also saved her a few of the treats from inside the eggs.

Dad took a lot of photos, including a few action shots of me jumping a fence. The camera doesn't seem to want to play and he can't transfer them to his computer. He'll keep trying and hopefully I'll have a few new shots for the page.

Last night Rosie and I had a great dinner of leftovers. The Rosinator really loves veggies so she got a lot of that. Slices of prime rib filled our bowls. Rosie capped it off with carrots, potatoes and asparagus (Roses pee smelled like something awful this morning BOL). I hope there's more where that came from later tonight . . . the prime rib that is, not the smelly pee.

Enjoy your day, pals.

My Great Day

Hey pup pals,

Thanks for the diary of the day wishes. I have great pals.

My day started off with Dad bringing me treats in bed. I love to sleep in and it was a great surprise when he did that for me.

I then took Dad to the train. When I got back, Rosie had opened the garbage and spread it out everywhere for me. Mom wasn't impressed. Needless to say I didn't get any of it. Rosie did manage a few morsels.

I then had a great sleep in front of the fire while Mom worked. But before I enjoyed the fire, I had myself a huge pig's ear. Rosie wasn't even jealous. She let me have it all to myself.

In the afternoon I went for a car ride with Mom and then picked Dad up at the train station. Tonight I think I'll enjoy some meat with my dinner and cuddle with Dad on the couch while we watch a movie.

A great day indeed.

Bark at you later, pals!

We've got the power!

And we don't even know it.

Today I was hangin' with my Mom. Together we went to a small plaza to pick up some essentials, which I must say has a different meaning for her than for me.

While we were parked in the lot, as is so often the case, Mom opened the sun roof and I stood on the centre console with my head out through the top of the car. Lucky for me I'm a tall boy. It's a very funny sight to see.

As Mom made her way from shopping back to the car, a lady approached her.

"Is that your dog?" she asked.

"Yes", Mom said not sure if she should openly admit to it in fear of what the lady would say to her.

"I'm having a very bad day," the lady continued. "I was just in the doctor's office having my blood pressure taken, and I have to say it's very high and I'm not feeling very well. When I turned and looked out the window I saw your dog with his head peaking out of the top of the car looking around for you. It brought the biggest smile to my face. Instantly all my troubles faded away as I watched him. He looked so cute and it made me feel so happy watching him."

"Oh, that's wonderful that he was able to do that for you," my Mom replied.

The lady walked over to the car and reached out and stroked my head.

"His name is Riley," my Mom said.

"He's a very handsome boy. Thank you Riley for turning my day around."

It's a street worth visiting.

My pal, Sammy is turning 1 this Friday. His wish, aside from a street named after him, is to increase his pup pals.

Let me just say, Sammy is one fun loving, story telling, highly entertaining dog. To take a ride on his road is one always filled with a good time.

So come on pup pals. If you're not a pal of Sammy--get on it!
