I am Home!

I have a new home. It is big, and brick, and has a lot of room to walk around in and a fenced-in back yard! A big change from where I lived these past six months--in a small kennel area at the Humane Society Calumet Area in Munster, Indiana. I loved Alexandra and the other employees/volunteers and they loved me, but maybe I can love this new place too.

Beds are Nice!

I got to sleep in a big, soft people bed last night. It was very, very nice. The big man snores a lot, but the fat little dog snores too (I don't know who snores louder)! I was quite comfortable, but the big man moves around too much. If he'd just turn around in a circle three times before laying down, he'd be fine...

I take Walks!

I go on lots of walks now. I live in this thing called a neighborhood. Block after block of houses, trees, bushes and grass... and lots of messages left for me by other dogs! The lady lets me sniff all I want. Every walk has been someplace new. We pass a lot of dogs locked in yards. They bark and bark as I walk by, but the lady says "you're ok, Dixie", and you know, I am!

Jump for Joy!

The lady and the big man went someplace yesterday and didn't take me. Stay, Dixie, they said, so I stayed, but I watched out the window. They came back in a while. Then the lady went to something called a job. She was gone a long time. I did not like this "job". When she came back to me she clipped my leash and took me outside. I was so happy that the lady came back I jumped and twisted in a circle in the air (!), jumped, jumped, jumped... I am happy.

It was a very busy day. I went to many different places with the lady. Tonight the big man took the gate down and let the little fat dog walk around. I couldn't settle. I climbed up & down onto the couch, onto the chair, onto the bed, over and over and over. Then I climbed up onto the big man's lap. It was a perfect fit and I went to sleep. I feel safe.

I am Tough!

I met a lot of dogs at PetSmart yesterday. A man said his dog doesn't like any dogs, but she liked me! The trainer man's dog was friendly at first, but then he put his muzzle on top of my muzzle and started to push down. I stopped wagging my tail. He kept pushing on my muzzle and trainer man didn't stop him. I didn't let him push my muzzle down and I finally growled at him "enough". I am shy, but I am tough!

I am Queen!

The little fat dog wanted to come up onto the couch. He always lays at the other end, away from my favorite spot. There is an ottoman there for his little fat legs to use to get up onto the couch. I do not need this "ottoman". The lady put a pile of pillows on the center of the couch to separate his side from my side. I climbed up and laid down on top of them. I am Queen of the Pillow Hill!

I will Wait!

The lady went to the "job" thing again. I do not like this "job". When she said "stay" I stayed, but I climbed up onto the big man's lap. We sat together for a half hour. Then I went and laid down on the lady's pillows in the soft bed. I waited and waited. Fianlly the lady came home and we went for a walk. It is different outside at night when everything is quiet. But the lady came back to me.

Happy to Help!

The other day I climbed up onto the big man's lap. Then I did it again. Tonight I climbed onto the lady's lap. They were talking and said how much they had missed having a "cuddle-bug". The last "cuddle-bug" they had was back in 2006. She was called HoneyBunny. They said that me laying in their lap felt so good. I don't know what this "cuddle-bug" is, but I'm happy I could help.

She is Smart!

I go on lots of long walks. In the morning with the lady and in the evening with the big man. Yesterday the lady and the big man were home all day. I went for a walk with the lady in the evening. A big German Shepherd came running out of a yard. He growled and his fur came up. I froze. But the lady didn't freeze. She turned to the big dog, stamped her foot on the ground real loud, waved her arms and made a loud ARRRRRRRRAH sound! And the big dog turned and ran real quick back into the yard. The lady is smart!
