I love to have attention from my owners lavished on me, I have to shove crazy Daisy asside to get it though. I love my belly being rubbed. And my back being scratched. Going Bye Bye and for walks.

Boy do I hate having to be regarded as second fiddle and take a back seat to Daisy Mae, what can I say, I'm whooped! I'm not fond of swimming in water. Drinking it is fine though.

Favorite Toy:
A blue football, any toy I can sneak from Daisy's view. We're not allowed to have stuffed toys though, because we are too rough and pull the stuffing out of them.

Favorite Food:
Definatley bacon, and any meat and McDonald's french fries and pretty much anything that smells good-also our Canidae kibble.

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere, primarily around neighborhood. (As long as it doesn't involve water)

Best Tricks:
High Five is my specialty(I'm ambidextrious too-how about that?), speak on command and hand signals, give me skin/shake, roll over, wipe my paws before coming in. Fetch and retrieve (Of course-I'm a Retriever!)

Arrival Story:
My parents came to my previous owners house to see me. My previous owners were military and had to move out of the country and couldn't take me. So, my new parents liked me and took me home with them. My first owners had named me Butter- (How un-distinquished!) My new owners didn't like that name much. When they received my papers, they saw that I originated from South Dakota. So, they aptly re-named me the respectable name of Dakota. I am a purebreed, but my new owners suspect that I may have been breed at a puppy mill. My originial owners purchased me from a pet store. I love my new mom and dad and my new home. I get lots of love and affection. Although, since Daisy Mae came to live with us, I have to now compete for their attention. Crazy Daisy Mae is somewhat aggressive. I guess I am whooped. Mom gives me plenty of love though. She says I am her first baby.

I am a sweet, loving and obediant guy. I mind very well, I don't like to rock the boat. Daisy on the other hand....... . When mom or dad pets me or rubs my belly, I make a growling sound of contentment and mom says I sound like a bear when I do that. So she dubbed me "Honey-bear". When we go outside in the yard, Daisy will get me riled up and I will chase her round the koi pond, but I get tired and usually just sit on the front porch and enjoy the breeze and relax-while Daisy Mae follows mom around like glue. She can't sit still. I tend to get overly excited when I sense that we are going for a walk or to the vet or bye bye. I start whining and wag my tail in anticipation. When I see mom or dad get the leashes out, that's it. I go crazy. Something takes over me -when I get overly excited I snort. I can't help it. I get out of hand in any public place and forget to mind. You should see me at the vet's office. I am so excited, they can barely get me on the scale to get my weight. I'm sure the staff there feels sorry for mom at times. When dad takes me though, he is real stern with me and I mind him. He won't put up with it. Mom try's her best to control me-her voice isn't as stearn as dads. She hate's taking me to the vet by herself because of it. Never mind taking both Daisy and I together at the same time. That is the only time I am not as obediant. Golden's tend to be a little high strung-What can I say? I love treats and the smell of bacon I am a big mooch. All I have to do is lay my head on mom's knee & turn my big brown eyes on mom and gaze into her eyes. It works like a charm, every time. (Shhhh-She has a weakness for big brown eyes- so that is in my favor-ha ha). Hey, charm goes a long way! Work It, Work It!

Woof Woof!
Today is all about me!!! Today is my Birthday! Well, I do have to share it w/it being Veterans's Day as well. But I don't mind that.
I am honored to do that. Both my mom & dad are Veterans.
I am 6 years old today. Mom has given me Birthday hugs and sang Happy Birthday to me this morning. She said I will get something special later today, when Dad get's home. I can't wait! I hope it's a yummy treat or kool new toy that I don't have to share w/ Daisy-Mae.
I know mom will also break out the camera and take lotsa photo's too.
She's a photo nut! " It's my birthday"... It's my birthday" "Oh yeah"...
"Oh yeah!" Can you tell I am a little excited?? Happy Veterans Day to all of our honored Vets today-Thank You for your Service!!" & Happy Birthday to all you fellow Dogster dogs who share the same Birthday as me.

Today, mom is leaving us to go to AZ to visit our human sis.
She is busy finishing up her packing of her suitcase. I don't like it when I know Mom is going somewhere and I can't go. I'm sad.
Dad will still be here to take care of us. But Daisy and I love mom more. She spoils us and snuggles and loves on us more. I'm going to really miss her. She'll be gone for 10 days. I don't know what we will do w/o her. She says she will meet 2 other dogs which are Beagles who are human brother in-law's mom's dogs, Missy & Sweet Pea and she will visit her Grand dog, Gsxr, who is a Boxer. She can't wait to see how big he has grown. He was a puppy when he left Va in July.
I'm jealous that I can't go and meet them too. Mom say's it will be hotter weather there. She says it should be around 100 degree's today there. It's like 70 degree's here. My winter coat is starting to come in already. Well, I guess Daisy & I will be down & out until mom get's back home to VA.

Going Bye Bye with owners!

Aug 7th, 2008

Oh boy! this past weekend, we got to go bye bye, camping to Lake Gaston with mom, dad and buddy, Daisy Mae. Dad went out to load the truck, then mom let us out to go potty. I was so excited, I ran straight for the open truck door and hopped in the back seat. Dad was laughing so hard, then tried to get me to jump back out. He hadn't had the chance to put the sheets on the back seat. But, I thought he was trying to trick me, so I didn't budge. Mom and dad were laughing. Dad had to drag me out. When we finally got to load up, I was soooo happy. Usually we have to be borded at the vets when mom and dad go on vacation. I looked out the window at all the scenery and hung my head out the window. When we got to Lake Gaston, we got to go walk around the campsite. We got to see the big lake and meet alot of people and other dogs. The second day, dad took us swimming. I'm not real fond of the water and didn't want to go in the lake. (Unusual for a Retriever-huh?) Dad dragged me into the lake and then I had to doggy paddle. Stupid Daisy kept trying to hop on my back while I was struggling to swim. Stupid woman!
Mom and dad laughed at us. I couldn't wait to get out of the water.
They we had to get a bath and have our ears cleaned out. The next morning, we sat out on the deck outside of the cabin enjoying the morning breeze with our mom while she drank her coffee. Daisy Mae saw some stray cats and started barking at them. She hate's cats.
It was a fun weekend and I was sad to go home. I love adventures!
