Forward by Bailey's Dad
I thought a little background on Bailey & her brother Momas (now waiting for us at the Bridge) would give a little context to how special last night was for Bailey, and her peeps too.
My wife had 3 dogs when I met her. Winston, Momas, and Bailey. Winston was the elderly statesman of the group... a true gentleman. Momas was the man of the house, and Bailey, the princess.
Momas and Bailey had a particularly close bond. They LOVED each other like no other dogs I've ever seen. Momas was a big, strong dog, and even though he outweighed Bailey by 20+ pounds, he always let Bailey win at tug-of-war, he let her get treats before him, he would protect her and watch out for her, and she responded by adoring him, while still being a precocious little sister and the princess of the pack.
One year after Easter, a huge pink stuffed bunny in the clearance isle at Target caught my eye. I thought it would be a laugh to see Momas, such a big strong manly-man dog, with a pink stuffed animal that was as tall as him. So I bought it, and Momas fell in love with it. He knew it was special, and he was very, very proud of it.
Like so many dog toys, eventually, it needed to go to wherever it is that toys that are "past their prime" go. Momas was devastated, so we bought him another great big stuffed animal... A horse. And Momas was happy again.
From then on, we always made sure Momas had a giant stuffed horsey to play with.
And Bailey loved it too. She would trash the daylights out of it, and Momas would watch with pride. Once they'd each finished playing with it, it was not uncommon for them to lay on top of the horsey and very gently wrestle... Really, they just mouthed each other more than anything.
You could tell it was something that both of them enjoyed very much, and made both of them very happy.
When Momas passed away, we were all just destroyed. We collected some of his things... his collar, his favorite football, his favorite sweater, his name tags, etc, and put them in a box. Horsey wouldn't fit in this box, but we didn't have the heart to throw it out. So, it went out to the garage.
Fast forward 2 1/2 years to last night... I was doing a lot of cleaning and organizing in the garage. I found horsey, and set it in a different place.
I'll let Bailey take it from here... Go ahead sweetie.
------------------------------------------------ ---------
Geez dad, took long enough! You know, they do have dogster for people! BOL!!!
Anyways, like dad said, he's been cleaning the garage like a crazy man (insert your own joke here) the last few nights.
As it got closer to bed time, I decided to go out there and see what, exactly, in the heck he was doing.
I was doing what I do, sniffing around, lookin' for anything to eat, or thrash, when something caught my eye...
IS IT? COULD IT BE?!?!?
sniff, sniff...
IT IS!!! IT'S HORSEY!!!!
Mom and dad were both watching me, and mom took horsey from her perch, and set her on the floor!
Before mom could set it down, I grabbed it from her and proceeded to trash the bejeezus out of it! I growled! I talked! I barked! It was a magnificent display of my ferocity!
Then, I got kinda hot... It's Texas, and the garage isn't air conditioned.
So dad put everybody else in the bedroom (So they wouldn't steal my special horsey!) and we went to the living room!
Again, I trashed! I barked! I growled! While mom held it up, I took a running leap and body slammed it!
And I smiled from ear to ear the entire time! And mom, dad and Aunt Melanie cheered me on!
*sigh*
After a good 10 minutes of this, I got tired.
Daddy gave me a great big kiss and said "I love you little girl, I'm glad that made you happy!"
And mom said "I'll put horsey back in the garage and you can play with it whenever you want, you just let us know when, okay angel?"
*sigh*
What a night. I got to play with horsey again. I know Momas wasn't there, so it wasn't quite the same, but still... It still had his slobber on it! BOL! And it made mom and dad happy too. That, or it made them sad... I swear they each shed a tear or two. People are weird, huh?
Until next time, horsey... Until next time.
Leave A Comment | 5 people already have Bailey, what a sweet story. :o) Awwww that is just so sweet. We're glad you reconnected with Momas. I was going to say the same thing, Ella.
So sweet, indeed. That's so sweet Bailey.
