Argus's Exploits

Fatty, fatty, two by four!

I'm driving my new family up the wall! I can't help it; I'm just all piss 'n' vinegar! All five of them can't keep up with me. I learned my lesson though when I tried givin' guff to Sara, the alpha dog in my family. She gave me a good smack on the nose with her big Chow-Chow canines and sent me runnin'! I'll always have a little pink dot of a scar on my muzzle now to remind me of what happens when you try messin' with the big dogs!

When I first came home, I didn't like the fancy Iams food they'd gotten for me so I didn't eat it and got a little too skinny for my human's taste so they gave me canned food mixed in. Ha! I showed them -- I ate right around the kibbles so they gave up and gave me nothin' but the good stuff! I fattened right up. When I went to my first vet visit, the doc' had to pop my little hip back in because it had shifted a little from all the weight gain. He says I'm growin' like a weed and need to slow down! So... they switched me to Purina Pro-Plan Adult food to give my bones a little more time to adjust to my growing body. I guess I'm 'average' weight now but I sure do miss all the fatty stuff and treats I was allowed to have before.

I took my first trip to Petland and Petco on Monday; it was so much fun! There weren't any other dogs there so I had no one to compete with for attention. Everyone loved me and couldn't stop talking about how handsome I am. Guess it's just natural. :-) Khamryn let me pick out my own jumbo-sized chew bone at Petland and when we went to Petco, I got two new two! I rope ball for fetching and chewing and a tuggy with a rope ball at the end for super tug-o-war! My new bed is great, too. Khamryn put it right over the A/C vent where I like to sleep so it keeps me nice and cool.

I also have new pics! All is well here in Iowa with my new people. Thanks for reading!

Argus's New Home

On Thursday, July 3rd we drove out to Wellman and picked up our brand new family member, Argus! As you can see from his profile, he is a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog. His grandparents were imported from Russia so I assume that means he comes from great stock. :-P He was the pick of the litter and after Iowa State taxes or whatever the case was, Khamryn ended up paying $1,016.00 for him. So far, he's done quite well in his new home. He's had a few accidents on the floor but he's taken to going outside as long as we remember to take him out. It's a bit too hot outside for him right now so he stays inside and sleeps in my room with me in front of the fan. He sleeps in a kennel at night so that he can't get into mischief, but he doesn't like it at all. For the first twenty minutes or so, he complains rather loudly (he almost sounds like he's being tortured!), but eventually he gives up and goes to bed. He's a sweet boy and he loves it when we get rowdy with him and wrestle (gently!) or give him things to play tug-o-war with. However, he's got a bit of an attitude and can be a real brat if he doesn't get his way! He loves to torture our cats and stands up to our bigger dogs like he's already twice their size. We're all looking forward to watching him grow up and, hopefully, learn some manners!
