Tonight I had to go over to the kennel with Mom cuz it was the last night of our obedience class.
I actually got to see the baby chicks and the Guinea keets!! Man, those things grow so fast!!! They are at least twice the size they were on Saturday when we got them. In fact, Mom already had to give them a much larger brooding box.
This one is basically a huge dog crate. Mom put cardboard all around the sides to keep out drafts. (HEY, Mom, it's 80 degrees here!) and she had to put their little water bottles up on lifters so they wouldn't keep filling them with shavings.
The pullets are rapidly outgrowing the Guineas. They have tons of feathers already, only their little heads and necks are still downy and fluffy and kind of yellowish. Their new feathers are all white.
The little Guineas are also getting their feathers. They are one week old today, actually and the pullets are two weeks old. The Guineas are black and brownish striped, but Mom says they will be more brownish with white dots when they grow up. And the scary thing is that they will not have ANY feathers on their heads!!!
Nuff said about the chickies. Mom brought my old nemesis, Thomas, home from the kennel tonight. Frankly, I suspect she may be bringing him back over there tomorrow, hehehe!
You see, we really DO NOT like each other at all! That means we have to try to kill each other whenever we see each other. Of course, that is often since we are in the same house, BOL! Mom tried Thomas in the puppy in/out pen but as soon as I got done trying to bite his nose thru the fence, I raced outside and discovered there was a HUGE LONG fence that we could run back and forth along.
As dog people would know, we cannot run along that fence without barking at the top of our lungs! Mom was shocked...all week we have stayed outside all day long and been quiet as church mice. NONE of us ran along that fence when Jones was in that pen cuz we LIKE Jones. (Or, Jones doesn't run along the fence???)
Anyway, Mom brought me into the house hoping it would quiet everyone down. Nope, suddenly Crystal started running back and forth along the fence (she was in with Thomas), and Ali and Georgie were running along the other side of the fence and they were all barking like crazy!
Poor Mom, she brought Thomas inside and suddenly, it was sooo quiet we could all hear the chickens cluck, cluck, clucking as they were scratching for bugs once again.
Me thinks Thomas will be heading back to work with Mom tomorrow. Oh well, he makes a GREAT companion for all the small dogs that come to daycare, they all spend their day in the big pen with him!
