To Howl For!!!

I am tipping the scales at 26 - 28 pounds. Mom says I am a big boy. :) I'm not fat, my ribs can still be felt if you rub my sides. My oldest brother, Trevor, weighed 26 - 28 pounds. I am taking after him and from what I hear that is a great thing!!! Sarah is 22 - 25 pounds at her heaviest. Mom says most of our weight is our fur!!! :)

Speaking of fur . . . We get groomed this Friday. I love a thorough bath. Mom sponges us, but once a month a full blown bath is to howl for!!! :) We "get pampered" as Sarah would say.

Talking about Sarah, she is a cool sister. Everyday our bond grows stronger. I still have my moments of jealousy because I was an only fur. . . However, all in all things are working out well. We had company today and Sarah stayed out and mingled with the people and the other two furs.

It has been a very busy week. We have tracked every day and increased our paces. Sarah and I really enjoy being out doors and playing this wonderful game with mom. I noticed she has been reading more of the paper work Miss Sally gave her. I tend to think something new is about to happen. I will keep you posted!

Mom went to spend time with Miss Becky today. Thank the good Lord she is feeling better. Mom returned home when Miss Becky needed a nap.

Thank you all for your prayers and concerns . . .

Miss Cindy came to visit us today at the park. Her furs, Jenna and Bandit are getting along beautifully!!! It looks like Jenna may have found her furever home! Jenna is one of the dogs from Aussie Rescue. She stayed at Miss Barb's house as a foster. That is where my best bud Skitter lives!!! :)

Speaking of Aussie Rescue . . . Miss Sharon called and said Miss Becky is not doing well at all. She is having a real tough time with her cancer treatments. Furs, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. I have never had cancer but I know my allergies bother me something awful and I am extremely uncomfortable. I went to the vet today and got a shot. . . Miss Becky is going through Chemo. I can't imagine how she feels . . . Or, what thoughts are running through her head . . . and her families heads . . .

Boo, I scratched the inside of my ear and would not leave it alone . . . Mom put that horrible E collar on me last night. Thank goodness she took it off this morning and I have left my ear alone. I do not like to be restrained!!!

We ate and up and out the door to the park we went. Mom stopped at the entrance of the park. . . She got out of the car; took our bag from the trunk. She left us in the car while she setup our tracking trails.

Sarah and I did 100 yards today! Mom says we will have practice at larger places like the park now that we that we have achieved 100 yards. Luke and his mom came down and watched us this morning.

Once we were done we hopped in the car and went to visit all our friends at the park. It was a nice and cool this morning. All the furs were active and having a great time.

Later All . . . :)

Mom was out in the court yard walking back and forth . . . Sarah and I watched from the front door. Soon she returned and said, "It's Spencer's turn." She opened the door and said, "Go Smell, Find It." I knew what that meant!!! FOOD!!!! I was off and forging ahead. Before I knew it, I was at the end and celebrating quietly of course, it was early. We promptly returned and she unhooked me and said, "Good Job and great work little man!!" She took my harness off . . . and she was back out the door. She returned and said, "It's Sarah's turn."

Once she finished with Sarah, mom put our seat belts on and we were off to the dog park to play!!!

Woo Hoo Treats!!!!

I wasn't sure what was happening this morning. We went to the dog park to romp and play. Afterwards, we drove down the parking lot like we were heading for home . . . Then, mom parked??? Miss Megan and Mr Stephen came by, I was placed in their truck and taken back to the park??? I sat by the fence and watched out for mom and Sarah.

I saw her coming way off in the distance for me . . . I began to celebrate with Miss Megan!!! We got into the car and rushed off. Once again, we STOPPED!!! However, this time mom and I got out and there was a lady waiting for us. When I reached her she began feeding me wonderful treats!!!! Thanks mom, great idea . . . Before I knew it I had a harness on??? . . . We crossed the street and began doing what the ladycalled "Scent Tracking."

I was in heaven!!!! There were treats at the beginning and a lot at the end>>> Woo Hoo!!! Treats and more Treats for me and only me!!! You know how we cockers are about treats!!! One thing I did notice however, is the distance between treats kept increasing. You can't fool me . . . I'm the Sheriff . . . The best part besides the treats, was we ALL celebrated and partied!!!! I LOVE to CELEBRATE!!!!! I throw my head back and howl!!! :) LOL I think the first time I did it Miss Sally was surprised . . .

It was a great day at the park today!!! I LOVE Miss Sally and this thing called tracking. Not to mention, we got to see Miss Becky!!! Mom said she had chemo on Thursday and should have been home resting . . . Eventually she had to leave due to not feeling well. . . We love you Miss Becky!!!!!

Something for me . . .

Things have been quiet the past two days. Mom, Sarah and I have laid low at home. Well, mom has been going out and about.

Yesterday, she picked up our pictures from the photo shoot with Miss Peggy from the San Diego Spaniel Rescue. When it is hot mom leaves us home so we can remain comfortable and not have to walk on the hot pavement. We have not turned on the portable Air Conditioners yet. However, it is coming . . .

Today mom went out and picked up something for me that she read about on the Zim Family Cocker Spaniel Forum. I have terrible allergies and she is hoping this will help me not to be so itchy this time of the year. She gave us both some on our food tonight and we gobbled it up. It sure tastes good!!! I only hope it does all it claims and more for mom's sake!!!

Noises in the Night . . .

Last night we were all awakened by loud noises outside our back gate. It sounded like someone was banging . . . We all got up and looked outside and saw a UHAUL truck!!! Mom put on her jacket and went out to talk to the people moving in the middle of the night. They were nice enough to relocate the truck away from the four condos on our side down by Aunt Val's parking space. Why they parked behind us, I'll never know. Not only were they in a better position to move the furniture; they weren't directly behind any condos other than theirs. Humans!!!!????

Needless to say we did not sleep until they fininshed. Mom fed us our morning meal. We usually eat between 4 and 5 AM everyday, so that tells you how long they were making noises. After eating and going potty we all went back to bed . . .

I sure hope they do not return tonight!!! A Sheriff needs his rest . . .

Finally Answers and Balance

Furs there is hope for Sarah!!! I was beginning to wonder if she would ever be free of her demons!!! :) Mom found out today, now is about the time Sarah would be in heat for the first time since being spayed last year. All the hormones are not settled . . . It is too soon for us to see "drastic" changes we "long for" . . . However, I have to admit she has made significant progress from when she first arrived on the scene!!! Hopefully, as time goes by she will even out and be a nice sweet fur. I want to play with her . . . not fight!!!

I do believe mom was continually questioning her decision regarding making Sarah a part of the family. . . Our routine was set and mom knew what to expect from me. I do believe it has been a challenge for her, having to work with the fighting and jockeying for position. I never counter surfed, knocked over the trash, or soiled in the house. Often, mom would say to Sarah, she felt like she was starting all over with a puppy and that she expected more from a three year old.

Today, for the first time, mom appears relaxed and at peace. Sarah has not soiled in the house, counter surfed nor, gotten into the trash. She is doing well with all our daily commands which ensure mom's safety. Sarah is learning new skills in class with ease. Mom is getting all the answers she needs to understand having an older female and training her apporpriately!!! Not to mention, I think mom finally figured out Sarah is "much smarter" than she lets on. Mom is pushing her and she is rising to the occasion!!!

Finally, the Hike household is settling down. We are experiencing calmness, peace, happiness and joy. :) I think Sarah feels she belongs and is settling into the Hike comfort zone. We socialize with many different furs. I do not think in the beginning Sarah was comfortable. She would hide while others visited. Now she welcomes people and furs. Many have commented on how social she is now when they visit.

We are a balanced pack, a family of three living in harmony!!! :) Homeostasis is a continual process to be achieved . . . It has taken almost a year for us to find our way . . .

New Attitude re: Furs

Many of the stores in Grossmont Center are welcoming animals into their stores. We think that is fantastic!!! Of course we think well behaved animals should be able to go any where!!! Look at the European fur lovers . . . their furs are welcome in restaurants and many other places their humans go. I am a service dog and can go any where mom goes . . . But Sarah can't.

We have gone to various restaurants that welcome furs on the patios while humans dine. It is fun when you have as many as six furs under tables. People are shocked when you get up to leave to see so many well behaved furs leaving with their humans. Many have commented, " We didn't even know they were there." :)

Pretty Cool!!!
