My Tail of Devotion for Wally

Wally. 50% Beagle, 50% Bassett Hound 100% loved!

I adopted Wally nearly 2 months ago. He is *MY* first dog. We come from a family who has many dogs in it. We've had a cat for 9 years and I really longed for the unrelenting love you get from a dog. Cats are great and all... but they love you when THEY want... dogs are always ready to love you!

I have 3 children. I remember recalling stories of their births to people LONG after the encounter was over. Shelling out tidbits of information scattered with tips and advice. A huge overpowering wave hits you upon the birth of your first to protect and love the little one with your every fiber. I never realized you automatically do the same when you have a furbaby!

I carry pictures of Wally with me. When I go somewhere, he goes. I only wish he came to work with me. He had his first "family event" 2 weeks after he came home. He was actually invited by name. (while my boyfriend wasn't)

I find myself going on and on about the cutest thing Wally did today. Or our summer plans that include introducing him to hiking and camping with our scout group. I'm officially obsessed.

I had to look through 100's of photos on Petfinder.com and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get past Wally. I instantly knew he was for me. I went down the next day to see about adopting him. When we pulled in the driveway of Berea "ARF" I saw a young lady walking Wally. I recognised him instantly and became very worried it was an adoptive parent. We found out it was a caretaker taking him on his evening walk. I called his adoption consultant twice that day. Once that I was interested, the other to say I wanted him! We knew he HAD to be ours.

So, nearly 2 months later.. what can I tell you. Well for starters, my dark green carpet looks a bit... hmmm furry. We have no crumbs under our table. No left object, plate, cup, toy, etc is safe. We have a cage full of toys and a blanket and the pup in the bed. I scrutinize over treats, toys, and leashes as if they were for my firstborn. I talk to him all day as if he's about to answer me. I can tell you my life has changed so much with Wally in it.

My crazy life... single mom to 3 boys under 12. I was on medication for depression on and off since my youngest (6) was born. I've been off of it now for 3 weeks. I think I have the perfect perscription. Go to your local shelter and find yourself a reason to live. I'm SO glad I did!

The Beach!!!

April 7th 2008 6:21 pm   [link to this entry]

I got to see Lake Erie for the first time today. I also met ducks, and tried to drag mom to every squirrel. I wasn't scared of the waves either. The water was too cold to go in still (mom says not until July or August). But I let my toes get wet! The lake isn't too far away but it's further then we usually walk, so I was pooped when I got home. There's pictures on my page of me walking on the brake walls.
