Likes: Sitting on people's laps and snuggling, toys that are much too big for him, big dogs, kids, wearing sweaters, snuggling under the covers right between Mom and Dad
Pet-Peeves: Wearing his harness, when Mommy and Daddy both go to work, loud noises
Favorite Toy: A giant tennis ball with a leash on it, Squeaky Cactus Man, any shoes lying around
Favorite Food: Cheese-and-egg-treats, people food, peanut-butter snaps that go inside the Kong, tofu, chick peas, green beans
Favorite Walk: Eastern Market, Noyes Elementary School, the National Arboretum, or anywhere where people will stop and say hello
Best Tricks: Fetching and dropping, being housetrained, rolling over, standing and balancing on his hind legs for extended periods of time, shaking, begging, charming strangers
Arrival Story: We originally wanted to rescue an older dog from a DC-area shelter and we had our hearts set on Beeker, a 7-year old Chihuaha-Min Pin mix. Unfortunately (or fortunately, from Guac's point of view), we weren't able to adopt Beeker, so we met this guy next! We waited about two months to adopt him from the Washington Animal Rescue League, but he was definitely worth the wait. We were told that we broke a lot of hearts when we took him home, but we're so happy he's finally ours!
Bio: Guac thinks he's quite the tough guy... we thinks it's a bit of the Napoleon complex. He loves bigger dogs because he likes to jump and roughhouse, but he's game for anyone who wants to play! He loves chasing squirrels and birds, as well as rolling around in grass. Guac has been known to lift his leg to pee so high or with such gusto that he actually knocks himself over. When Guacamole gets tired he likes to lick Mom and Dad incessantly, or really anyone (or anything) around. Guacamole has now recovered from surgery to correct luxating patellas in both back knees. He was out of commission for up to 6 weeks, but now he's ready for a playdate for some rough-and-tumble!
Forums Motto: You were put on this earth to love me.
I've Been On Dogster Since:
Mom took me to a funny place today. At first I thought I was going to the vet's office again, so I was a little nervous, but after we waited in the front room we went to a little pen to run (instead of a doctor's office like I had thought). Just when I was having fun and running around, it got better-- some woman brought another dog out to play with me. First we were both on our leashes to make sure we would get along, but after a while they let us off the leashes and play together. I chased him, he chased me, we played with a ball... it was lots of fun. Mom says he's going to be my new brother! I think that means he's coming to live with us tomorrow. I'm so excited!
Well happy birthday Guacamole! Mom and Dad are not exactly sure when my birthday is, since I am a rescue dog, but last week I got a new toy and some new treats! And lots of love and petting, of course. I also had doggie playdates with my friend Bagel and my neighbors Ziggy and Blue.
Mom and Dad told me that now that I am one year old, I should start behaving myself a little better-- no more late night accidents, if you please! I told them as long as they promise to understand if I have an occasional accident, I will promise to try harder!
Some of the other perks of being a one year old? Well, Mom and Dad have given me a cool collar instead of that harness which I hated so much. I also don't have to go in the crate anymore while Mom and Dad are at work. Plus I've been able to visit Mom a lot more at her job, which is fun because there are kids to play with and a big open space to run around in. Being one is great!
Well, it's been six LONG weeks since the knee surgery for my luxating patellas, but according to the doctors, I am all better! I begrudgingly wore those awful casts, peed dutifully in the yard instead of all over the neighborhood, and didn't run up or down the stairs but a few times, but now that my six weeks are through, it's time to wreak some havoc! I'm ready to wrestle with those two big boxers down the street, to play Frisbee in the soccer field, and to spend a little time off the leash next time we're out in the country. Watch out big dogs of Brookland... I'm coming!
