Arrival Story:
Avia was raised as a sled dog. She was named after the Avia running shoes. She a brother named Nike, and 2 sisters, Reebok and Addidas. Avia herself had a litter of pups, and when one escaped one day, she tried to dig herself out of her run to rescue it, and tore her foot up pretty badly. It didn't heal right, and she couldn't run with the team anymore. I had just lost Tundra, so Avia's owners offered her to me - I needed a dog, Avia needed a home. We got off to a rocky start..Avia had never lived in a house before, or been without the company of at least 49 other dogs. Because she was a working dog, she never had a puppyhood, so she never played with toys. She was anorexic nd underweight, and it was an uphill battle to get her to eat. Her only concept of "play" was running - and she could run like the wind and out pull an ox! With patient persistence, we adjusted to each other and Avia became a devoted, loving companion who was more like living with another human than a dog. She was always shy and wary around strangers and would resist forced closeness, even from me. She also resisted obedience training. Avia had a mind of her own and unbelievable verbal skills. If I scolded her, she scolded me right back. If I laughed, she laughed. If I sang, she sang. Avia was truly a "dog unto herself".

Avia was always very regal and dignified. Her odd coloring is "piebald" or "pinto". She was witty, stubborn, loving, and an all around wonderful companion. When my fiance adopted Bodie, we were afraid to introduce the two - but it was "love at first sight" and she and Bodie had an exceptionally close relationship. They sang these fantastic duets..Avia was a soprano and Bodie sang bass...too funny. After Bodie died of cancer, Avia was never the same again. Her heart was broken and the light went out of her eyes and never came back. She never sang again. I brought Moses home in an attempt to comfort her and give her an interest in life, but she merely existed for another 3 years, and finally she went to join her beloved Bodie. http://www.angelfire.com/mi4/tselv ey/world/

Avia..That first month was rough while we tried to adjust to each other. But we worked it out didn't we girl? And we had a great, happy life together. You were fun to live with and life was never dull with my Veezie around. I miss our long walks, first you and me, then you and me and Bodie. I miss our ice cream cones. I miss your duets with Bodie. I miss you running all my guests off "your" end of the couch. I miss people's expressions when they found out how strong you were for such a little slip of a girl. I just miss you, girl. I loved you so much.

This is a special Tail of Devotion
